1974 International Scout '802'
1974 International Harvester Scout
Today you’re bidding on a 1974 International Scout ‘802’ 4x4 with a completely rebuilt 345 V8 and 727 torqueflight automatic transmission, that is true to its International Harvester legacy. This customized Scout received a complete frame off restoration, taking the best parts of the original Scout 800, and the follow up Scout 2, to make a rig that is set to not just turn heads, but perform both on and off road, with all specs / receipts available to demonstrate that nothing but the best was used to build this rig!
This restoration started in 2014, with the vehicle being completely stripped down to the bare chassis, with all structural mounting points being re-enforced and portions of the frame being re-enforced to support addition of power steering and added durability for the next offroad adventure. Afterwards, the chassis was carefully sandblasted and coated with highly durable materials, before receiving new leaf springs (2.5" suspension lift), rebuilt and upgraded Dana 44 axles with SOLID housing covers (the RA18 designating axles with open diffs and RA28 axles with Trac-Lok Limited Slip differentials), Bilstein shocks, and a good looking new pair of shoes (15" wheels with 33" BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A’s with less than 800 miles on them), with new rotors and disc brakes, new brake booster/master cylinder setup, and all new brake lines to help this vehicle stop reliably and repeatably, out on the road or on the trail.
The powertrain for this Scout was completely rebuilt, by stripping an original 345 international motor down to its block before honing the cylinders, porting the heads, replacing the pistons, lifters, rockers, springs and utilizing a Schneider performance cam, all new gaskets, etc. during engine reassembly. A new aluminium RPT intake, new Holley Truck Avenger Carb, new Davis Unified Injection (DUI) unit were bolted up to ensure this powertrain cranks up every time, with no fear of cold weather. Completely new fuel system (pump, lines, etc.) combined with a custom stainless steel gas tank, new aluminium radiator, brand new wiring harness, and new dual electric cooling fans to add to the long list of enhancements have really led to a reliable V8, with great amount of torque and horsepower available. To transfer that power to the impressive shoes, a completely rebuilt 727 Torque flight automatic transmission with newly rebuilt drive shafts, front and rear, were installed. The exhaust system starts with two newSTANSheaders (Satin Titanium coating) and a dual chrome tipped, Flowmaster exhaust system.
The body from this Scout is from International Scout 800 and has received a high amount of custom fabrication to take it to the next level. Starting with the stretched rear quarter panels, utilizing original Scout steel from a donor vehicle, the rear quarters were meticulously cut and stretched to fit larger shoes, while still looking completely stock. The filler neck and various light holes were shaved, a new gas door (from an S-10 truck) was fitted and various body panel seams were welded / shaved to give a clean look to the truck. The front grill was modified to accommodate a 1” body lift, leaving no visible body gap between the grill housing and the frame. All floor pans (including the truck bed) were completely replaced with new steel and every nook and cranny of this body was meticulously sand blasted, primed, and bed lined inside and out to withstand anything, on or off road.
Additional nice touches include: fully custom fabricated and bedlined nerf bars, roll bar and front / rear bumpers with high quality steel, relocated battery / battery box (previous location of one of the fuel tanks), new gas struts for hood (allows hood to open like a newer vehicle), compressor for air generation (including air reservoir + air horn), brand new bucket seats, new auto-meter gauges, all new weatherstripping and seals, etc.
Vehicle has a clean Texas title and less than 1500 miles on it since the restoration has been finished. Hope you enjoy, and no, I am not interested in your thoughts / comments on the bedliner. Serious bidders only – looking for someone who will enjoy the truck daily, and appreciate the care put into restoring and utilizing parts / drive train, etc. from International. Pick up only from 75503. Digital photos of the entire restoration are available upon request from serious bidders. Detail listing of receipts / links for parts used also cataloged.
