Well preserved daily driver Scout with a manual transmission
1976 International Harvester Scout
1976 international scout II 4x4 convertible.
Please only bid if you plan on closing the deal. The clear title is in my name is in my possession as shown in the pictures at
https://ata2.pixieset.com/scout/This is one great truck. It has spent nearly all its life in New Mexico away from the salt and rust up north. I believe I am the 3rd owner with factory window sticker, line setting ticket and owner’s manual.
This is not a show truck and does have some rust in the usual spots for a Scout like the wheel wells, door sills, bed near the tailgate, and around windows on the top. Please see the photo collection
https://ata2.pixieset.com/scout/This truck is driven 3-4 times per week and while the total mileage is unknown due to a broken speedometer, I estimate the mileage to be in excess of 150k. It starts right up.
The truck is well built from the factory with Dana 44 axlesin the front and rear. The Line setting ticket that is included in the sale shows all the standard Comanche 4, 196 cubic inch motor. The beauty of this motor is that it has left the Scout with a well preserved driveline as this engine never produced much power and torque even when new (102 hp, 176 lb-ft). This truck has power disk brakes in front with NEW PADS and NEW ROTORS.
The car also was equipped with chrome windows and chrome front and rear bumpers, power steering, and bucket seats.
This is a CONVERTIBLE TRUCK !! The top comes completely off for an open-air drive or beach cruise! All the windows are in great shape and do not have any cracks or chips. Pictures disclose the rust present on the wheel wells. The undercarriage pictures how that the floor pan is well preserved overall. The body supports are solid and the left and right wheel wells are in fair shape. (Usually these areas are rusted to bits, especially up north in the snow) NOT this Scout!
This is not some barn-yard find that has been sitting around for years or some flipper. I have driven this Scout regularly for 30+ years. I restored it once and now it is time to pass it on for someone else to enjoy. This is a Scout you can pop the top off of a drive around having fun in the sun. And when you are ready to restore it, you’ll have a solid truck from the high desert that had an anemic engine which preserved the driveline!
Here is the list of noteworthy parts.
- Mirrors (left and right) matching shape of grille
- Grille guard designed for a Scout
- Brush guard designed for a Scout
- Rear tire carrier with jerry can holder
- Interior Light bar (looks like a roll bar)
- Locking gas cap

Oil changed every 4-6 months
Here’s a list of what is not working:

The truck has some imperfections in the paint, blemishes, dings and may need final tuning to get it to the way you like it. The car is almost 50 years old, it will not drive nor look like a new Honda. I drive it to work on a regular basis. If you like driving something different, this Scout is for you. The $1000 non-refundable deposit is due at the end of the auction and full payment is due within one week. I accept PayPal for the deposit. Please do not ask questions that are answered in the ad.
