Description:

1978 International Harvester Scout

This 1978 International Harvester Scout II is a long-wheelbase Traveler model powered by a 345ci V8 linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case. I bought the Scout in early 2020 and unfortunately need to sell now. It is finished in green with a black hardtop and a black vinyl interior. Modifications include a lift, beadlock-style wheels wearing 33″ mud tires, an aftermarket front bumper, and a Kenwood head unit. The carburetor and brake booster were reportedly rebuilt in June 2020, and the water pump, mufflers, ignition components and alternator were replaced in preparation for the sale. This Scout II is now offered with a clean California title in my name.
I bought the Scout from a dealer who took delivery at auction, so details of previous work and maintenance are a little unknown but there are a lot of modern modifications while maintaining the original look. The bodywork was refinished in green some time during previous ownership. The hardtop has been painted with black Rhino Liner, while the grille has been refinished with textured gray paint. Additional equipment includes an aftermarket front bumper, a steel rear bumper.
Black beadlock-style wheels wear 33″ BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tires, and a non-matching spare is mounted in the cargo area. The truck has been lifted and is equipped with power steering and Warn manually-locking front hubs. The brake booster was overhauled earlier in 2020.
The cabin features reupholstered black vinyl front bucket and rear bench seats. Black carpeted mats cover the floors and extend to the cargo area. Equipment includes a Kenwood head unit with a USB port mounted in the stock location, an analog clock, and a center console between the front seats. A video tour of the interiorcan be seen herehttps://youtu.be/SNn63iMjkGs.
An original three-spoke steering wheel fronts an olive green-painted dash. Stock instrumentation housed in the woodgrain bezel includes a 100-mph speedometer and a five-digit mechanical odometer reading 7k miles, around 600 of have been added during current ownership. Actual chassis mileage is unknown.
The 345ci V8 features a single carburetor that was rebuilt earlier in 2020. Additional work recently done includes replacement of the water pump, vacuum hoses, fuel filter, spark plugs, intake manifold gasket, EGR pump gasket, and freeze plugs, while a new alternator was fitted in September 2020. A video of the engine running can beviewed herehttps://youtu.be/SNn63iMjkGs.
A floor-shifted three-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case send power to the rear or all four wheels. The truck is equipped with a dual exhaust system, and the mufflers are said to have been replaced in June 2020.
