Description:
1978 International Harvester Scout
Up for sale is my 1978 IH Scout 2. It has a 345 V8 engine with a 4 speed manual transmission. It starts right up and runs great. It shifts smooth and the transmission and engine are both strong. It is a 4x4 and the transfer case also shifts into and out of 4 wheel drive great. The auto locking hubs also work as they should. The brakes work great and stop as well as you could expect from a scout. It has disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. It has approximately 10" of lift on it accomplished with a spring over suspension lift and a 3" body lift. This work was performed by a shop in North Carolina by the previous owner. The body is also in great shape for its age and it underwent a very expensive restoration approximately 10-12 years ago. The body is great and does not have any rust in the common scout places such as the panels behind the driver and passenger doors, he fenders, he inner fenders, nd the windshield frame. These parts are all in good/great condition. The only rust I have noticed is starting on the rocker panels as seen in the pictures and has only started over the past several months since I have had to store the scout outside since our new jeeps and motorcycles have been staying in the garage. This scout is super dependable and I can go out anytime and I know that it will fire right up and get me where I need to go. This scout is the most dependable scout I have ever owned and is very low maintenance as far as scouts go. This scout has had a great life and has been garage kept for the majority of it. The care and attention that has been given to it shows and it has been very well maintained. It is not a show quality scout but it is an excellent driver and gets attention anywhere it goes! It fits in from the off road park to the mall parking lot. I get compliments from everyone from kids to old men who remember them from back in the day.
Here is a list of as much of the replaced parts that I can think of:replaced alternator within past 2 yearsnew Optima battery ($200)new u joints ($80)serviced oil, iffential fluid, rans fluid, -case fluid ($170)new wiring for battery ($80)new off road bumper with winch mount ($500)new rear bumper with winch mount($270)new Superwinch 9500lb winch (waterproof) ($450 w/ cover and accessories)new LED off road lights (front and rear) ($250)new headlights ($50)new shocks ($200)new drag link ($450)new drag link heim joints ($45)new brake booster and master cylinder ($180)new custom switch panel (in center console) ($80)newer (used but great condition) dash panel ($300)new upholstery throughout interior (marine black vinyl and houndstooth inserts treated with 3m scotchsguard) ($700)new soft top by Softtopper ($950)New CD player, peakers, mp and sub ($400) and it sounds AWESOME!!!!!and I am sure the list goes on and on but that's what I can remember off the top of my head.
There are a few things that I know the scout will need in the future and those include:alignmenta good cleaningit does have a couple of very small dents and dings here and there (see pics)passenger side door adjusted (it has been somewhat misaligned since I got it and I adjusted it as best as I could by myself but it really just needs to be aligned properly. It opens and closes great but just needs some minor adjustments to be sitting perfect)the driver's side door is missing the lock but I have a set of spare complete doors I can throw in with the scout so you will have the lock for it. Also keys do not lock the doors ONLY ignition,Tires are about 40% tread. Still pull great and ride good but in a while will need to be replaced. The speaker covers for the 6x9 speakers are included and just need to be installed (not on in pic)
I drive this scout all of the time and drive it everywhere from work and around town to the off road park. I take it on some of the more mild trails and have not abused it by any means. I drive it to and from the off road park when I have been and the park is about 1 1/2 hours each way from the house. I can drive it out there and wheel it all weekend and then drive it back with no parts failures EVER (on the 5 trips I have taken it)!!!!!!!
I also have the original A/C system from this scout. It worked when I first got the scout but had a slow leak and needed to be recharged. Since I was removing the interior to have it sprayed with bedliner, removed the interior portion of the a/c system (duct work etc...) I still have it all in storage with the exception of the lines that run from the condensor to the compressor).
I have a good bit of parts that also come with the scout that I have gather over the years. I will be including 2 complete doors with windows, new power steering pump, xtra seatbelt parts, xtra lights and knobs, he A/C system, new muffler for the scout, n original front bumper, and whatever other miscellaneous parts that I have been storing.
Thats about all I can think of now. If you have any questions please ask! I have tried to be as descriptive as I could about it and haven't tried to hide anything! I require a $500 NON-Refundable deposit within 24 hours of auction ending. The remainder is due upon pickup in CASH! If you have something you are interested in trading for it please let me know. I am mainly interested in cars that get good gas mileage and really cool off road toys or side by sides. My number is (912) 223-8714 if you have anything to offer. Also the scout is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the listing at any time!!!
If you are interested in the scout please let me know and you are welcome to come check it out and test drive. It is a great scout and needs to go to a great home!!
