Rare 1970 International Scout 800 A Aristocrat 4x4 IH Dollup Hardtop Convertable
1970 International Harvester Scout
Up for sale is a 1970 International Harvester IH Scout 800A Doll Up Aristocrat Scout. I hurts my heart to put this up for sale but I don't have the time to restore it due to other projects. Or the space to store it. I bought this a few years back and have been using it to drive around town and take on fishing trips. It's still a head turner and people give lots of compliments and take pictures all the time. Very fun to take the top off and go camping.
This is a Special Edition or Doll Up Scout. This is one of 2,500 Aristocrats built by IH. From my research, Half were kept here in the states and the other have shipped across seas. There aren't many of these left in existence today. They have either all rotted away or have been cut up. These were already kind of rare but to find one worth saving or drivable is an even harder find.
The Aristocrats trucks had a blue, vinyl interior and dash components, were painted blue and silver and had a chrome roof rack(with extended bars), chrome rally wheels, limited edition sliding top windows, four wheel drive was standard on most models. I have almost all original trim pieces except the headliner. This includes the matching door handles, wheel well panels and door panels. They can probably still be re-conditioned or used for new patterns. One of the door panels is off. The handle was broken so It was opened up to use the door latch mechanism. I believe I may have one the original aristocrat emblems and 4 of the hard to find original reflectors. I will have to double check my parts though. If I can locate them they will go with the truck.
This particular one, according to the line sheet builds, is 1 of 4 with this drivetrain and transmission combination. It has an amc 232 in-line 6 cylinder with a one barrel Holley carburetor. This is attached to a synchronized 4 speed manual transmission. It is 4 wheel drive that is in perfect working order. This was painted from silver to green at some point but the original blue wasn't painted and the color scheme was kept. It still has the original carpet and undercoating on the vehicle.
I have 2 engines with this. The original one and another one that has been rebuilt and put in. It has less than 4000 miles on the rebuilt engine. The original one is believed to have a broken ring in the 3rd cylinder. It smoked but I found another scout the same year with the same engine. Both engines can go with the scout if desired. I have black wagon wheels on the scout now that will go with it along with the 4 original chrome rally wheels, one with a spare. Also there is an original spare attached to a 5th rally wheel that also goes with it. It is on the spare tire carrier on the back.
If you know anything about scouts they typically rust in the same areas. You can see from the pictures it has rust in the normal scout spots. Floors, lower quarters and rocker areas are usually what goes. They have exactly fit replacements panels for all of these areas. Any lightline truck company will sell them. You can check the Super Scout Specialist website for a good reference to parts and prices.
It also is equipped with original factory chrome bumpers. I believe the chrome front winch number was a dealer option. Also, the rear hard to find seat in great condition. The front seats are there and have been recovered at some point with a matching center console made and installed. They are vinyl with fabric centers. The ufc seat covers can go with it if desired.
It runs and drives. 4x4 works great. I put another pressure plate in it when the engine went in. I put the correct master cylinder in it, rebuilt the carburetor with a new kit, new plugs wires and points, replaced the wires from the firewall back to the rear brake/reverse light area, new reverse light switch and many other small fixes. It does need a new speedometer cable. I bought it that way. So when I bought it the previous buyer said there's is s discrepancy on the mileage on the title. Gauges work but the gas level sending units do not. They do from time to time. It has two saddle gas tanks so when one runs low I fill up and switch the lever and use the other one. Also there is a vacuum or exhaust leak somewhere I haven't had a chance to chase it down yet. This causes a fuel starving problem/cough on heavy acceleration. What I've been doing is just leaving it choked a small amount and it runs smooth under acceleration like that. There is a clutch cable mount that needs changed or properly repaired. It's been repaired once but I'd suggest getting a replacement. The repair on there now allows it to be drivable but it was on my list of things to change. You should be able to find one on one of the scout forums easily.
Other than that if you have any questions or want to set up a test drive contact me and we can set it up. This really is a great find. It's worth just the starting bid price with all of the hard to find Aristocrat parts. You can drive it like it is, repair it or restore it. You don't get a lot of opportunities to own a genuine International Aristocrat Scout 800. I wouldn't hesitate.
Local pick up. Shipping can be arranged if payment is made in full. Once it leaves my property I am no longer responsible for it, it's location or condition. So please use a reputable shipper if that's the case. I can palletized the extra motor and put the extra parts and rims inside of the scout. I know the ins and outs of this scout since I drive it so please ask questions if you have any.
Happy bidding. Scout is sold as is No Returns. Could also do cash if that's easier.
