Description:

1980 International Harvester Scout

You are bidding on a near flawless, nut and bolt rotisserie restored 1980 International Scout II. This is a perfect example of what a Scout should look like. Original factory colors paired with some subtle modern upgrades to make it truly unique. Production of the Scout line of SUV’s were halted in October of 1980, so that makes this the final year of the Scout and the end to era that started with America’s original SUV. The square headlights are a instant indicator that this is a 1980 production year truck. It is of the opinion that the 1980 trucks are quickly becoming a collectors dream due to the short (and final) production window. It's hard to say where values will go for the IH Scouts. These don't get quite the attention as Bronco's have in the last few years, but as prices of Bronco's become unreachable for many, Scouts could become the next big SUV craze. This truck has been a museum piece for all of it’s life after its restoration not long ago and would make a perfect addition to a collector OR to someone who simply just wants to invest in something that is fun to own. This is perhaps one of the cleanest and straightest Scouts anyone has ever seen. It is impossible not to turn heads when driving this truck. You will be approached at almost any stop sign, fuel station, or ice cream stop and asked about the truck (and get offers to buy). Restoration costs on this truck nearing $40k. There is not a speck of rust inside, outside, on top of, or underneath this vehicle. It is 100% metal perfection. Truck is painted correctly in original GM Concord Blue and matching Brilliant White for the hard top. The paint on this truck is a 10 out of 10 and considered concourse ready. The hardtop was the final piece of the restoration project in 2015. Top was in decent shape to begin with, but all rust was removed prior to treatment and paint. A new headliner was installed to give it that factory look. Rear lift-gate glass has some minor scuff’s on it, but otherwise, all glass is original and in perfect condition. Included in the auction is a soft top from Scoutparts.com, however, it looks so good with the hardtop, why would anyone consider removing it. Original truck was a Diesel, however, we chose to use an original IH 345ci mated to a Torqueflyte 727 automatic tranny for the restoration. Engine bay is clean as a whistle. The engine was rebuilt in 2010 with slight cam to give it a little extra boost. New radiator, brake booster, master cylinder, rebuilt stock 2 barrel carb, A/C unit, wiring kit, front rotors. Engine block is painted IH red, new stainless steel braided hoses and fittings throughout entire vehicle. Headers where produced by a custom exhaust manufacturer in Michigan and mated to dual Magnaflow mufflers. The truck has a nice deep rumble at idle and on the road it is quiet enough to have a conversation. The truck starts, runs and drives as it should. Power is adequate for a vehicle of this size. Not as peppy as my Bronco, but this is a heavier vehicle. Transmission shifts fine as does the 4x4 engage easily. Power steering makes the truck a breeze to drive in town, but like all SUV's, there is some wandering when at speeds above 45mph. Front discs do a good job of stopping this truck at almost any speed, although rear’s can lock up if pushed hard enough. Everything works perfectly on this Scout. Lights, gauges, dash lights, horn, heat, fan, A/C (needs filling) windshield washers, and AM/FM radio. The truck was given a 1" suspension lift and paired with American Racing rims to give it a bit more aggressive look than a stock unit while still retaining most of its' original character. Inside the cabin, the original black bench seats were restored to showroom condition with all new foam and velvet covers. They provide a nice, upright seating position with a sturdy feel. Tilt wheel, A/C, roof rack and chrome package where factory options on this unit. I would give the chrome on this truck an 8 out of 10. If you could find someone that can do chrome finish on the grille, it would give this truck a unique finish unlike any Scout out there. Truck has been stored in a climate controlled garage with other collector pieces since restoration. I give this vehicle a 9 out of 10 overall.
