1968 International Harvester 1200C 4 X 4
1968 International Harvester Other
This 1968 International 1200c 4x4 is one of the nicest examples of its kind. With only 76,424 original miles, this truck has been well cared for its entire life and it shows. I am the second owner of the truck and know it’s exact history. The truck was ordered from Webfoot International in Medford Oregon in August of 1967 with all of the right options. On the order list was, Power Steering, Power Brakes, T-36 five speed transmission, 345 V8, along with the custom trim package. He ordered the truck this way to accommodate the Avion C-11 camper he had bought for it. The truck when not in use was stored under cover in a car port. However the sun still did its number on the hood and tops of the front fenders. The paint on the rest of the truck is in excellent shape and is the original paint. The only rust that the truck had, was like all Internationals of this body type, in the cowl. It has been cut out and new steel installed and sealed up. The rest of this truck is rust free due to the dry climate of southern Oregon. I chose to take the pictures with the new carpet kit out so everyone could see exactly how nice the floors are in this truck. The truck comes with a new ACC carpet kit and will be professionally installed next week. There are a few small holes that I welded up on the bed where the original owner had installed hardware store style tie downs, but no body filler at all in those spots was applied, just red primer. I had the seat recovered with the original material from SMS Auto Fabrics. This came off the factory rolls! This is not reproduction garbage, it’s the real stuff and it shows. The tires are brand new 235/85/16 10 ply all season radials with new radial tubes. I had the wheels blasted and powder coated back to the original gray and had the hub caps re-chromed too. ( Super rare to even find one of these ¾ tons with hub caps, and chrome too! ) The truck has undergone a full tune up and fluids change. I also replaced all of the hoses and installed better than stock heater hose hold downs. The heater that was ordered for this truck is the high output heater more commonly found in the Travelall. It has three cores that are built together into a “U” shape and has two blower fans. I chose to have a brand new heater core made rather than have the old one rebuilt ($400.00 ). This heater can roast hot dogs. It flat works! The rest of the interior is in good shape for its age. With the normal small pair of cracks in the dash pad and minor paint abrasions from 40 plus years of wear and tear, it’s still one of the nicest ones you’ll find. As far as the running gear of this truck, it’s in great shape. The 345 V8 like all International V8’s suffers from weak valve stem seals and smokes for a second on startups but doesn’t smoke other than that. It uses no noticeable amounts of oil between oil changes( every 2000 miles ) and doesn’t leak it either. It’s a simple fix I’ve just chose not to do. It holds great oil pressure and runs cool. The engine is very strong and has no internal noises. (No lifter tapping or other noises other than small exhaust leak ) When my friends ride in the truck, they always comment on how smooth it runs and how quiet it is. The T-36 transmission is great in this truck. The T-36 is the close ratio 5 speed and shifts and performs like a close ratio car trans. The trans makes this truck fairly quick, and in town driving a breeze. No big jumps between shifts. The brakes were completely gone through when I got the truck and still perform excellent. The power steering operates smoothly with no nasty whining or binding. The truck was also ordered with a power lock rear differential and a 4.10 to 1 gear ratio. The truck performs well in town, on the freeway or in four feet of snow. Although I’m not one to push the old girl, it doesn’t seem to have any problems at 65mph and have taken a few 300 mile round trips in it. Due to growing popularity of this body style International, people are finding out just how hard it is to find one in this great of shape. You’ll see them pop up on Craig’s list and eBay every so often, but unfortunately, they are repainted with new paint that’s hiding lots of rust and body filler. More often than not, the outside paint doesn’t match the inside either. As you can tell from the pictures, all of the spot welds are clearly visible on this truck! No filler! The bed and bed floor is second to none. No big dented up wheel wells or beat bed floor. Just scratches, and minor dings. The tail gate was wrapped in a blanket inside of the camper when I got it. It’s as close to perfect as they come. The rear bumper was built for the camper. I chose to leave it on because it has deterred people from driving to close to the rear end of the truck. The rear tail light panels are perfect. No rust and dent free! All items are in working order with the exception of the gas gauge. The gas tank transfer switch works and has power through it so I’ve always known that the floats in the tanks were no good. The body side trim is all there. Even the ultra rare, one year only front fender 1200 emblem with marker lights! The front bumper and grill still shine and are in near perfect shape. This truck is a paint job away from a real show stopper. I chose not to paint the truck because of how nice and original the truck was, but everyone has their own ideas. I drive this truck at least 3 to 4 times a week since I’ve owned it, and has always done the job I’ve asked it to do. The truck comes with a spare tire that mounts under the bed. It was out when the pictures were taken. 1968 was the last year, and arguably the best year for this body style. It still maintains the look of the vintage style truck, but sports the conveniences and drivability of the later trucks. If you’ve been looking for one of these trucks but they have always been overpriced, or just too far gone, or someone’s done a half ass restoration on it and calling it impeccable or flawless, you can stop looking and start bidding. This is about as nice as they come. Always adult owned and never abused and no junk body work. I have set the reserve at a reasonable price and think it will be easily met. I am running the auction for the full seven days and will not end it early for a buy it now price so don’t bother asking. If you have questions or would like more pictures, please ask and I’ll get them to you.
