As far as the condition and operation of the truck everything works, the levers to disengage / engage the front brakes, 4x4 & Nuetral, hi and low are all SMOOTH.

The tires are not great, they have nice tread but are weather checked and rubber seems degraded. I would still feel comfortable towing with the rear tire rubbers but the front steer tires should be swapped asap to be safe.

This truck was originally a V6 gas engine and was swapped to a 8.3 Liter Turbo Cummins in 2007 and repurposed for school bus recoveries and towing for a school district in Park City, registered and most recent inspection in 2022.

The main mechanic that built the engine and swapped this wrecker from gas to diesel retired many years ago so I wasn’t able to get first hand information, only learned what I could through the shop foreman at the school bus garage. The shop foreman was hired sometime in 2021 to run the garage so he wasn’t very knowledgeable about the truck and it’s history. He said they no longer use it because he didn’t want his mechanics out towing and recovering buses. He said now they just use whatever towing company will get there the fastest / so for shop space, insurance and liability reasons they got rid of it.

He did say they only put about 6,000 miles on the truck since the odometer was around 54,000 at the time of the engine swap in 2007. Other than that he really didn’t know much about it, but when you see it up close its hard to believe how clean it is for its age and the engine is immaculate, looks like it was just installed a couple days ago. Everything is functioning, all the lights work, air horn, brakes + everything else is ready to go.
