1959 GMC 250

As stated this is a truck with a unique history - from a place it could have been very helpful around a hundred years earlier. It is mostly original except the engine, which was a Pontiac V8 (326?). Now it's a small block Chevy V8 that has less than a hundred miles on a fresh rebuild. While nothing has been cosmetically 'improved', the truck is sound and in good running condition. It has 16" Ford rims on now but the original tire rims (8 X 17.5) are supplied.The fuel system has been kept clean and fluids changed. The Napco 4WD transfer case and front axle works well. Differentials have a 5.14:1 ratio. Shipping is up to the buyer, and while it is drivable, a long distance drive wouldn't be recommended due to the low gearing. Slower than my tractor but (possibly?) climb a telephone pole - bigger wheels would be a help! The chassis is rated at 10,000 GVW, a one ton rating, but used single wheels on the rear which perform better in snow. The truck has been in Montana since 1975 which has a very dry climate so rusting is not a big issue. Supplied with no bed, it is ready for a frame-off restoration. The seller has a abrasive blast facility if a buyer wishes to get a jump on the process. Provenance is not complete due to a lack of cooperation from the California DMV. I traded a chimney for this truck in 1977 and the owner was sure of its origins. This was supported later when a tow company sign was uncovered on the door that placed the truck directly in the Donner Pass area. If any viewer has information regarding the original paint color, the robins egg blueshown in the under hood picture, please let me know. Although I am confident in this history, a conversation would be welcome witha potential buyer who wished to investigate prior to pickup. In conclusion, this truck is a gem, and would look beautiful restored to its full chromed glory - and also preserve a bit of American history.
