Description:

1979 GMC Vandura Santana

Well, here is your chance to go back in time and experience what it would be like to own a brand new 1979 GMC Santana Camper/Conversion Van.

Bought at Amerec Subaru/Recreational Vehicles in Carson CA, It was secured with a cash down payment of $300 on 4/20/1980 and picked up on 4/25/1980 when the remaining balance of $7,267.90 was paid in full. Since that date, the original owner has meticulously maintained the van and has only driven an average of 82 miles per year to keep mechanical components happy and to have the fluids changed. It is unclear why the van was never "used" in the traditional sense but it was recently inherited by the original owners family and is now being offered to collectors world wide.

With only 3,139 original miles the van still retains its original CA title/plates and shows almost as NEW in every respect regardless of its 38 years of dry storage. It is a pure time capsule and still has that "New Car Smell" from 1979. It runs and drives great and comes with "EVERY" document pertaining to the original purchase of the van including… The original equipment sticker, sales receipts, sales agreement, Santana brochure, Business cards from sales agents, letters to and from GMC, warranty documents, onboard equipment manuals etc. The van is equipped with a LF4 Chevy 6.6L 400CI engine, a 3 speed M38 Transmission and a HE4 3.40 rear differential. All fluids were just changed and HVAC system serviced. AC blows cold and heat blows hot.

All paint is original, very shiny and only has flaws that it left the factory with! It has no dings of any kind anywhere!!! The original 95% tread factory tires were just replaced because of flat spots from sitting but they do hold air and will be included in the sale.

The interior is in like new condition except for small damage to the driver's side rear captain's chair detailed below. The carpets appear to have never been stepped on and nothing inside the van has any signs of ever being touched by human hands.

The undercarriage shows as new save for a small amount of surface rust on a few exhaust and suspension components. Even the paper part number stickers hanging from every hose, wire and cable on the undercarriage are in perfect shape. All the frame and component paint shines like new. The transmission also has all of the factory painted markings from the assembly line inspections.

The small list of flaws include…

1.The radiator leaks a few drops of coolant while cooling off after being driven.

2.There are 2 small splits in the driver's side rear captain's chair cushion (pictured) that look to be caused by a chemical burn? My guess is that a battery operated radio or flashlight was left on the seat and one of the batteries leaked some acid. Original fabric could be sourced to recover the cushion or it can be patched with extra fabric that is folded underneath some of the other covered seating in the van.

3.The adhesive chip guard sticker on the driver's side rear wheel arch is cracked (pictured).

4.Windshield has one small chip high up on the passenger side.

Original camping equipment includes… Rear bench seat folds down into a comfy bed. There is a sink which pulls water from an onboard fresh water tank. Below the sink is an Ice Box with very ample space. Both tables are removable and all 4 captain's chairs can swivel 180 degrees.

This is a very rare opportunity to own an almost new 38 year old vintage camper with only 3,136 miles on the odometer. It's colors/patterns, interior styling, and 8 track AM/FM stereo are pure 70's Americana! Collectors may bid with confidence. A LOT more pictures available upon request.
