This original California truck is extremely solid and very original. It must have spent most of its life indoors, protected from the elements. I have not found any real rust issues and it is as clean as they come for 60 year old, un-restored classic trucks. Although the paint does not appear to be original, it is definitely very old, as it has the beginnings of that sun-kissed, dried patina that is so sought after nowadays. In my opinion it would be a shame to paint this truck. Its current condition will save you a lot of money by avoiding the typical rust repairs that are commonly required on these old trucks. Additionally, you won’t have to go back and fix any previous hack-job work which is found on most classics. This truck is pretty much the ideal, clean, blank canvas to start your build with. The original straight six engine starts right up and hums like a sewing machine. The truck starts, runs and drives. The brakes do need some attention but the emergency brake works properly. The starter pedal return spring will need to be replaced ($4 part). The gauges all seem to work except for the fuel gauge as it just goes straight to full as soon as the key is turned on and I only have a couple of gallons of gas in the tank. The windshield wipers do work. The odometer shows just over 51,000 miles and based on the condition of this truck, I do believe it to be accurate. With minor effort, this truck could be made road-ready as-is or, it would make a great start for a full build. These GMC Blue Chip / Task Force era trucks are a rare find and even more rare in this condition. Everyone is looking for the cleanest, most original, complete and rust-free truck to start their build with...this is it.
