1965 Ford Mustang

Just as they were nearly 50 years ago, ustangs are fast, un, nd affordable ways to get around. Traditional ponies like this 1965 coupe are a great way to own an icon without spending a ton of money, nd when they carry a few clever updates, hey make wonderful hobby vehicles that can still be enjoyed every day.Seriously, f you could own a classic V8-powered Mustang coupe for about half the price of a new one with a four-cylinder engine, hy wouldn't you leap at the chance? Nicely refinished a few years ago, his handsome Prairie Tan coupe carries all the timeless design cues that put these cars at the top of every enthusiast's wish list. Bodywork is well done, nd the unusual paint gives it a more upscale look, nd everything lines up nicely. The line that runs along the tops of the fenders is as sharp as a crease in Don Draper's suit, nd the paint has just the right shine to look right on a Mustang but not so nice that you're afraid to drive it. All the chrome has been freshened, nd goodies like the '289' badges on the front fenders, he 1965-only "crosshair' grille, nd classic 3-element taillights are crisply restored.Tan bucket seats make the interior a brilliant place to spend some time. Mostly likely in original condition, he seats are showing their age but they speak well of the care that this car has enjoyed over the years. The carpets are also probably original and show some fading but not much wear, o I wouldn't worry about replacing them. The door panels are quite nice and the dash offers original gauges that all work properly. Under-dash A/C was how both the factory and the dealer did it, o it looks right and works well thanks to R134a refrigerant inside, nd the three-spoke steering wheel is in good order. The factory AM radio is still in the middle of the dash, nd even it is working properly. The trunk features a correct mat, ull-sized spare and a tire cover to match.Classic performance in a Mustang means only one thing: a snappy C-code 289 cubic inch V8. Early Mustangs received gold air cleaners and valve covers to go with their black engine blocks, o it looks right and runs well. And when your car runs this well, here's really no need for upgrades and modifications, nstead letting the spirit of 1965 flow through you whenever you're behind the wheel. It fires easily and has a snarky V8 exhaust note thanks to a single exhaust system with correct transverse muffler. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission spins the original 8-inch rear, nd there's a new gas tank out back for worry-free cruising. Power front disc brakes were added at some point, hich is always a good idea, nd factory-style power steering makes it easy to drive. Standard 14-inch steel wheels with Mustang hubcaps retain a proper old Mustang look and wear recent 195/75/14 whitewall radials.Nicely documented with the original window sticker and dealer invoice, his clean little Mustang coupe represents everything that's great about the original pony car, till available at a very reasonable price.
