1961 Ford F-Series Custom Cab

1961 Ford F500 Cab & Chassis truck that lived most of its life as a dump truck. Runs and drives, ready for restoration!

Vehicle Details

This 1961 Ford F500 was used as a dump truck for most of its life here on the eastern plains of Colorado. The previous owner retired the truck and removed the beat up dump box in preparation to install a flat bed.

The 292 Y-Block motor runs and does not seem to have any issues. The oil was changed and a new fuel pump installed last summer, as well as the fuel tank flushed. It does leak a little oil.

The 5 speed transmission has some play in the gear shift, but does shift through all the gears and seems to operate normally. The truck also has a 2 speed rear end which functions properly.

The doors all open and close easily and operate as they should. The truck has all good glass, with the driver side window and windshield being brand new.

The interior is in good condition for the truck’s age with no major issues. Typical wear/cracking on the dash pad, 2 speed rear end selector switch is worn but functional, etc. The seat is a worn but very comfortable bench seat from an 87-91 Ford F-Series truck.

The truck’s braking system could use work but it does stop the vehicle just fine. It has a new master cylinder as well as new wheel cylinder on the front left wheel, and new bleeder screws all around. There is a very small brake fluid leak at the hard line going into the master cylinder. The pedal is spongy but the truck stops just fine. The park brake works as well.

The body is in decent shape for its age, with some rust on the passenger door, driver side cab corner, hood, etc. Rust spots are pictured. The worst of the rust appears to be on the passenger side door. I have a spare door for the truck (pictured) that I can include if the buyer would prefer to restore it instead of the door that’s currently on the truck. I believe all the rust on this truck is repairable. The frame is in great condition with no issues.

The wheels are the two piece style rather than the lock ring style. Tires are tube tires and hold air well enough to drive around my property as well as short distances but should ultimately be replaced.

I purchased this truck about a year ago and had planned on fully restoring it to use around my ranch and go to car shows, but I have too many projects. If you have any more questions about it please feel free to shoot me a message!
