Cool nostalgic hot rod convertible built in the 70s

Vehicle Details

Looking to sell my 1951 Ford custom convertible, I had intentions on cruising this car this summer but I need to get rid of some projects so I can focus on my business. This car was built back in the 70s, it was nosed, decked and shaved. For those who don’t know what that means, they altered the front hood shape and fenders to give it a curve, they shaved all the door handles (installed poppers), and shaved the trunk lid. The bodywork and paint is very old on this car and is showing its age. Overall, the floors are pretty solid on this thing and the body is straight. Trunk does have has some holes, the car will need body work and paint. I planned to leave it as is because I loved the vintage striping on the car. All the glasses intact, drivers door latch doesn’t work so the door is strapped closed, and the passenger side popper isn’t working. I haven’t had any time to see if the power top works yet but the frame is intact.

It’s got a 289 and c4 transmission from a 60s mustang, 9” rear end, and dual exhaust out the back. I did get the engine running, sounds good, has great oil pressure, doesn’t smoke. The radiator is clogged up pretty bad and will need to be replaced and quite possibly the water pump. The Car does run, shift and stop. But has poor coolant flow so I wouldn’t suggest driving it around. This car was sitting since the 80s and will need some love. The gentleman I got the car from did install a new gas tank and an electric fuel pump, as well as a new distributor, coil and a 2 barrel carb. The engine currently has a four barrel intake manifold on it with a 2 barrel adapter. It will need a new ignition switch as someone drilled it out due to lost keys. I do have a replacement that’ll go with the car. It’s not far off from being a good cruiser, it just really needs the right person to show it some love and clean up some poor work/wiring done by past owners.

I really wish I was able to put the time in and get this one back on the road, shoebox ford convertibles don’t come around often and when they do they’re rotted and basically parts cars. I have a clean New York State transferable registration from the 80s. We don’t have titles on Classic Cars here in New York and transferable registrations are how we transfer ownership.
