1957 Ford F-350
Built in 1956/7 for the Mt Lodge Fire Co as brush Mountain Truck. Outfitted with NAPCO 4X4 with High/Low divorced transfer case. Transmission has PTO mechanical drive. F-350 suspension, 9 foot bed which I understand was exclusive to the 350 series trucks. !957 is a pinnacle year for Ford, this was the truck that started the total change of all other trucks. the total redesign set the bar for all other truck makers. Also, 57 is a 1 year front end, in the NAPCO family if trucks Ford is the least common, in that family 57 is the least common so it is easy to see why these are the rarest of the group. Nice thing is all the parts are still easy to find and the truck is simple in design which is easy to maintain. Custom cab, good glass, interior is basically unrestored except for the dash where the gauges were replaced for modern operating gauges, the old gauges come with the truck and the seat which was recovered but then has a small burn hole in it, easily repaired. Wheels are the ultra rare 6 lug 19.5 wheels. Current tires are lower profile than the originals just to get the truck in the garage (7 foot door height). Engine is the 272 Y-Block, runs great but could use a distributor upgrade. The engine has never been off the chassis, it was basically cleaned up and painted in place. Same goes for the transmission, 4 speed with PTO. Drive line is all original except for the rear driveshaft, it was replaced due to damage that occurred along the life of the truck. The body was removed, all steel was repaired, the bed floor was replaced, body and paint are 5 years old, truck is a head turner. The Fire Co call number M-548 are still on the dash. The truck used to be outfitted will all the old apparatus from a 500 gallon tank and hose and pump to the ladders lights and badges. A photo is attached showing the truck in its glory. Mt Lodge Fire Co still operates and the old timers have serious stories of this truck from the days of use. Over all the truck is in great shape, saved from rusting away a huge investment was made to save this truck. I have no time to continue the work and so the truck waits in my heated garage for the next chapter to begin. Truck is near complete however it needs bumpers, I have a custom template of the rear bumper with wrap around ends for a 1 foot step. The original bumpers were far gone and the winch was somehow lost along the way.
