Description:

1979 Ford F350

Here is a very rare 1979 F350 Supercab 4x4, Only 1,682 made and it’s the only year they were made. Also known as “X36” since that’s the designation in the vin for F350 Supercab 4x4. This one came from the factory with a 400 V8, C6 automatic, A/C, Camper Special package, 4.10 gears with correct Dana 60 “snowfighter” up front, bedside toolbox, power steering, power front disc brakes, dual gas tanks, cruise control, and rear slider. It has “special paint” on the Marti report and as far as It appears it was originally White with a Gold roof. The odometer shows just over 4,000 miles and it is believed to be 104k original miles.

Vehicle Details

The truck was repainted at some point in the past and the paint is showing it’s age. It is fairly presentable but should be repainted at some point. The body is fairly straight with a few small dents on the bed. There is also a crease on the passenger door. The cab mounts are solid. There is rust in the rear outside bed corners and a few small holes in the rear floor between the rear seats. Some rust repair has been done, some still needs to be finished. The front passenger floor has been replaced and some small patches were put in the driver’s side. The cab corner on the driver’s side was replaced and bodywork still needs to be finished. There was also rust repair at the lower rear of the cab and that area still needs a bit of grinding to give it a finished look. The grill and grill surround are in very nice shape, as are the bumpers. Windshield is cracked. Very clean underneath with the rear half of the frame having been cleaned and coated with POR 15. The front gas tank is included bot not installed. It has some rust inside and should be boiled out by a radiator shop. You can’t buy supercab front tanks so this one should be cleaned and used.

The interior is in decent driver quality condition. The seat has an aftermarket cover and needs new upholstery. The dashpad looks pretty good but does have some small imperfections.

Mechanically the truck is pretty sound. The previous owner had the heads rebuilt and the motor has no smoke or noise. The transmission and 4 wheel drive both work as they should. Currently it has a crappy Chinese carb on it because I haven’t had time to rebuild the original carb but it will be included. It is very cold-blooded with this carb but runs ok once warmed up. The A/C is not currently hooked up. The exhaust exits before the rear tire and leaks, it should be replaced.

Overall this could be a regular driver with a carb rebuild and a little tinkering, or give it the restoration it deserves and have a high dollar truck. It is mostly original, does not appear to have every been wrecked, and has in Washington State since new. I have owned it for a few years and have been slowly working on it but I have too many projects and something has to go. It could be driven around town but it is probably not ready to be driven across the country. I drove it home about 80 miles when I bought it but haven’t really driven it since.
