1978 Ford Mustang Black King Cobra
1978 Ford Mustang King Cobra
I'm putting up for auction my beloved and rare 1978 Mustang King Cobra. According to the Marti Report, this King is one of 1,399. There were only around 4,000 Kings produced, and they were one year only.
Please read this entire auction listing, including the payments terms at the bottom before asking questions. I know it's a lot, but I'm certain most questions will already be answered. I am also more than happy to facetime with serious buyers. I want you to be happy with the car. I will also consider offers prior to auction end. Low reserve.
I've owned this car for about three years now and have loved every minute of it. I bought it out of Chattanooga, TN, and the car was originally sold in the same city in 1978. The gentleman I bought it from had it since the early 1980s and he knew the original owner. This car was like another family member to the previous owner, and also for me. Everyone who sees this car, loves it.
King Cobras are a rare breed, but this one is in many ways a 1 of 1. The previous owner wanted to build a strong drag/street car, and that's exactly what he did. This KC is nitrous-equipped, has a strongly-equipped 5.0 302, and is just a beast on the road. And you can see many of the other updates/modifications. This is a special King.
Please check my feedback and bid with confidence. I've been selling on ebay for more than 23 years with thousands of positive feedback transactions.
Mechanical
This car runs and drives very well. It's a real pleasure to drive. It always starts right up, and it's one of the most reliable cars I've owned. I would drive it anywhere. It does have nitrous, and it's all hooked up, but I've never sprayed it. I have, however, seen the previous owner spray the nitrous, and it's definitely crazy fast. I left the tanks and hook-ups purely for looks. The engine is very built, but I don't have the specs. I was told it's a Fox Body engine, but it's definitely far removed from being a stock Fox engine. It sounds like a monster. It's an automatic car and shifts very well. The suspension has been upgraded, but I don't have the specs for that. It does have traction bars, looking underneath it.It has dual exhaust, that dumps out by the rear axle. It sounds awesome. You can hear this car coming, that's for sure.No AC. Heat does work well. This was a factory AC car originally. No power steering. It leaks a little oil after I drive it. I believe from the oil pan gasket. I just add oil every so often, but not much.It has an electric fan and aluminum radiator. The fan comes on automatically and shuts off after a minute or so after the car is turned off.It accelerates very well. Everyone will want to race you when you drive this.Unknown actual miles.New battery.Paint/Body/Undercarriage:
This was originally a black King Cobra, and now it's a satin black. The paint is called Stealth Black. It has a sheen to it, so definitely not a flat black. The hood is custom.Decals are in great shape, except a little around one of the rear wheel wells. It peeled a little. All of the KC body parts are present - front air dam, rear spoiler, spats, etc.The front and rear bumpers are lightweight fiberglass. The paint is overall very nice, with some small blemishes. I love the way it looks. The contrast between the bright orange/gold decals and the satin black paint makes the car look like the batmobile. It's also sinister looking at the same time.It has custom circular fog lights and custom smoked headlight covers.Doors open and close very well. Sometimes the striker on the driver side needs to be tightened. No sag in doors. It has 15" wheels that are chrome with black plasti-dip coating. Front tires are new, rear tires could be replaced.Rear window louver is metal. It has quarter window louvers. No rust is visible on the body at all. No rust is visible on the undercarriage at all.Interior
It has custom gauges that all work. Speedometer does not work.It has custom seats that are pretty cozy. With some wear. I do have the OEM seats, and they come with the car if requested. It has T-Tops, and they're very nice. They rattle a little when you drive. Some of the weatherstripping is worn out around the doors.Seat belts work great. It has a console.CD player sometimes works.Headliner is good.It has the optional courtesy flashlight option.Glass is all good.Steering wheel is original and very nice.Carpet is nice. And it has nice Cobra floor mats. Please watch these videos (copy and paste links if needed):
