Up for purchase is my 1992 Ford F250 XLT. It truly is one of the most dependable, toughest vehicles I have ever owned. Sure, it’s not a diesel, but it has easily handled anything I’ve thrown its way and then some. It gets 12.5 mpg no matter what (hand calculated multiple times). Whether you are towing an 8k camper, nothing at all, in the city, on the highway, in a blizzard, through a desert, it gets the same mpg. Seriously. And speaking of towing, it tows our 8k camper like there is nothing there and cruises at highway speeds with one finger on the wheel (not recommended, haha). The granny low gear offers a serious amount of torque and can easily pull a tree stump without much effort. It is an unbeatable tow rig.
I’ve done a lot of work to it while under my ownership and will list everything below. It spent the beginning of its life in the Midwest, but has been a Texas/Georgia/Florida truck for the last number of years. It had, keyword being had, some rust over both rear wheel wells. I have removed and treated the rust and the new fender flares cover it. You can leave it as is for the rest of its life or repair – up to you. I removed and treated a rust spot on the cab below the rear window and covered it with aluminum diamond plate rocker guards – I matched them on the other side, but there was only the one spot of rust. There was a dent in the tailgate from someone backing up to a trailer tongue I assume, which I covered with diamond plate as well. I can provide photos upon request of those areas, but they are nothing serious. The rest of the undercarriage and body are in great shape with minimal surface rust here and there (see photos). The interior is a 9/10 and has no ripped seats, stains, or odd smells.
When the truck came into my possession, the previous owner installed one of the deepest, loudest mufflers I have ever heard. It woke the neighborhood every time I started the truck, so I put in two quiet flow mufflers. I did not go all out welding into place because eventually I was going to put a Banks or Thorley header kit on. So, you can drive it as is which performs great or you can go with a header kit you prefer (in the South, exhaust sound and style are very unique to the individual so that’s why I am leaving it opened ended for an update by the next owner). The EGR system is intact, functioning, and necessary in my opinion.
Everything on the truck works as it should. The Cruise Control functions properly and the 4-wheel drive works flawlessly. There is a minor oil leak at the back of the valve covers from what I can tell, but the oil pressure still reads between the R and M in NORMAL. The RPM wanders sometimes when the truck is idling while warming up – it’s a known quark of these engines, but doesn’t affect performance. All gauges work fine, the fuel tank switch works great, brakes are nice and firm, Tekonsha brake controller works great, all interior and exterior lights work, and the tires are like-new with 90% tread. The spare tire needs replacing, but will get you from point A to point B.
Things I have replaced while under my ownership:- New heavy duty shocks front and back- New harmonic balancer- New spark plugs- New ignition switch and key cylinder with two new keys- Oil change in the last 1,200 miles- Fresh front/rear differential fluid in last 2k miles- Fresh transmission/transfer case fluid in last 2k miles- New clutch fan- New fuel filter- New 7-pin wiring harness- Custom heavy duty swing out tire carrier- Camper shell (has some clear coat peeling)- Comes with original owner’s literature from 1992 – very cool- Comes with a complete set of original Side Irons aluminum running boards
I’ve tried to include everything I can think of, but feel free to message me with any questions or if you would like additional photos/videos. It’s a 32-year-old truck so I am trying to be as descriptive as possible with the condition. It has a few dents and scratches, but it is about the best heavy duty truck you can buy if you want a vintage vehicle that’s also highly functional. You won't be able to leave the hardware store without someone coming up to ask about it. I’d keep it, but as evidenced from the car seat in the back, it is not the most economical family hauler. That said the truck is sold as is with no warranties. Feel free to send me offers - I can help with loading the vehicle and store it for a few weeks too.
