1987 Ford F-350 4×4 Firetruck-Former Fire Department Vehicle-Collectors Dream
1978 Ford F-350
There are a few words to describe this truck that willcommand the attention of truck enthusiasts everywhere: low mileage, dual wheels, turbo diesel, and four wheel drive. Put them together and you have one of themore sought after combinations out there in the marketplace today for a truckmade in the 1980s. This 1987 Ford F350 4×4 is a former fire department vehiclethat, like many of them, was loaded to the hilt and sparingly used. It has aInternational 6.9 IDI under the hood and just extremely low original 32,924 miles. This truck was kept inside climate controlled fire station its entire life.
It’s amazing how many vehicles owned by firedepartments consistently emerge with low miles and all the best options. It was like having Christmas in July as they checked all the boxes for theoptions reserved for municipal use. Sure, you couldn’t get heated seats, butyou could get the big motors, heavy-duty cooling, four-wheel-drive, heavy duty winch on a giant front chrome diamond plated bumper, giant storage boxes, generators, inverters, dual rear wheels, bright red paint and a lockerrear end. All lights work, and spot lights/flood lights run off an inverter system or the generator.
This 1987 4X4 Ford F-350 is in stunning condition withvirtually no signs of wear and tear, no rips no tears in the cabin. The frame has zero rust as this vehicle never saw rain or the elements except for the occasional Fourth Of July parade. There is no rust, and apparently the fire station had their own detailing team onstaff because this Ford looks mint. The Ford is equipped with a C6 3-speedautomatic transmission and 2-speed transfer case, along with 4.10 gears. There’s also a 12,000 lb Warn winch on the front bumper, along with a Honda 3500generator in the bed. This Ford-Tough F-350 Diesel is the industry power-leader for light-dutytrucking chores and can tow up to 9,400 pounds.
The Ford/IHC 6.9L dieslel engine featured a bore of 4.00 inches, a stroke of 4.18inches, produced 170 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque with a 20.7:1 compressionratio. The Ford Diesel IDI (Indirect Injection) engine is a diesel engine thatwas used in Ford vehicles from the 1980s through the mid-1990s. Indirectfuel injection diesel engines (also known as IDI) utilize apre-combustion chamber, which is where fuel rapidly mixes with air andauto ignition occurs. Fuel is rapidly forced into the combustion chamber, whichmixes with air in the cylinder, effectively powering the truck. It was offered in a 6.9-liter V8 engine that was known for durabilityand reliability.
As well all know, the diesel enginesFord installed in its trucks are generally sought-after for their durabilityand respectable horsepower figures. With super low original 32,924 miles and just one owner, thisFord F350 4×4 fire truck has plenty of life left, and I wonder if the nextowner will keep the red and white paint scheme. Given the paint is said to belargely blemish-free. This truck is ultra mint with no issues and runs perfect.
