1970 Ford Mustang

This is a 1970 Mustang Mach 1. This is a real Mach 1 with “05” in the vin and a Marti report. Nicely optioned with a 351C, automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, power disc brakes, foldown rear seat, front spoiler, rear wing, rear window louvers (slats) and 15” Magnum 500 wheels. The car was originally Gold with a Ginger interior. It received a cheap yellow paint job (think Maaco) in the 80’s and it started peeling exposing the original Gold, which is why the previous owner painted it flat black. The interior was also converted to black at some point and you can still see signs of Ginger in a few places. Originally a California car according to the Marti report and still has CA emissions equipment in the trunk, although the gas tank has been replaced so the emissions equipment is not connected.

Vehicle Details

The body is in overall good shape with what appears to be all original body panels, including quarter panels. The car is very solid with good frame rails, shock towers, front inner fender aprons, torque boxes, quarter panels, rear wheel houses, trunk. Has an NOS front valance. The front passenger floor has rust due to a leaky heater core and will need to be at least partially replaced. The front driver’s floor has a couple small holes that can be patched and a full pan replacement in not necessary. There is a fairly minor crease in the passenger quarter panel that will be an easy fix. Other minor imperfections but overall a good candidate to paint your choice of color. Has all correct Mach 1 rocker panels, grill, hood with scoop and twist locks and taillight honeycomb panel with trim. All glass is good, grill and chrome are also in good shape. Nice 15” Magnum 500 wheels with BF Goodrich TA’s that have good tread.

Interior is a mix of new and original. Dash pad and carpet are new. Headliner is original and has a small hole above driver’s head. No speaker holes in foldown panels. Seats are decent but there is a tear on the edge of the driver’s seatback. Door panels are in good condition. Missing rear sail panels that go behind headliner on sides below rear window. They are inexpensive and easy to replace.

The engine and transmission have been rebuilt and have less than 10k miles. The engine is as 351C with 2V heads, a 4V intake and carb, and a slightly lumpy cam. It has nice dual exhaust with original style tips. The automatic transmission works well and has a torque converter with a slightly higher stall speed. The engine is cold blooded because it needs the choke hooked up but has no smoke or leaks and sounds good. The car was driven regularly until a few years ago and could be back on the road with a weekend’s worth of work. The only issues I’m aware of are the heater core is bypassed and is not working and the turn signal switch needs to be replaced so signals and brake lights aren’t working. The car drives good and the steering, suspension and brakes work well. A/C under hood parts are included but not installed.
