Description:
1964 Ford Galaxie
ONE OF THE RAREST AND FINEST GALAXIES ON THE PLANET.!! ESTIMATED PRODUCTION OF 42 UNITS OR LESS!! YOU MOST LIKELY WON'T SEE ANOTHER!!I've had the pleasure of owning and driving this time capsule for the last six years and now it's time for a new owner. I put just a little over a thousand miles on it. All of those miles were local car shows and Sunday drives. The majority of its life under my ownership was sitting in my garage under a car cover. That's no life for such a rare and fine automobile.
In 1964 the top engine option for a Galaxie was the iconic 427. A few potential buyers balked at the reliability of the high compression/ high horsepower monster. Rather than lose a sale, savvy dealers would offer them the P-code option. The P-code option essentially was a Police Interceptor minus the sirens. It was not advertised in brochures. The only mention of it was in the owner's manual of all places. The Tri-Power option got the buyer a 330-horsepower Thunderbird Special 390 (the Police Interceptor motor) with the four-barrel Holley. The Tri-Power set-up and a special solid-lifter camshaft were stashed in the trunk for dealer installation. Ford advertised the horsepower at 340 which is pretty ridiculous. 400-horsepower would be a more realistic estimate. Other goodies that went with the package were cast-iron headers, larger 15" wheels, bigger brakes, heavy-duty suspension and a larger 17" diameter steering wheel to assist turning at low speeds. Only a handful of these were made. The popular consensus is 42 or less based on reliable sources. That's RARE!! When you add to the equation the cars that didn't survive it becomes even more scarce. Since purchasing this Galaxie in 2017 I've constantly looked at eBay auctions, Bring a Trailer auctions, Mecum auctions, etc. and have seen maybe one or two P-Codes offered for sale.
Speaking of rare. This pretty much base model hot rod came equipped with a factory am/fm radio, as well as a studio sonic sound system including an original front and rear speaker. I added an NOS period correct tach that is gorgeous and has worked flawlessly. Sunvisor's, front seatbelts and original rubber floor mats pretty much concludes the options. The lighter works. The clock did at one time. I always meant to send it out to The Clock Doctor for restoration but never got around to it.
The powertrain is all original with 42,983 miles as of today. 4-speed Top-Loader manual trans and 9-inch 3.50 rear differential. In the world of Ford powertrains, it doesn't get much better than this!
I'm not a big fan of cars that float. So, over the years I upgraded the suspension with bigger front and rear sway bars. I also added top of the line Bilstein gas shock absorbers as well as performance front coil springs and rear leaf springs. I also upgraded the tires to Hankook ST 235/60R15 white letter radials. They look more ol' skool and perform WAYYY better than my previous BF Goodrich Radials. Better grip and stiffer sidewalls. NO CONTEST!! I did not want to alter the look of the car's stance. Ya don't want to mess with perfection! It sits the same as stock but handles like a modern car. You can definitely throw this car into a turn with confidence!
I will assist the new owner in any way I can to make it a positive transaction. Please take a look at the pictures and videos. I can always send more directly to interested parties. Do not hesitate to ask if any questions or concerns. My feedback is perfect on any and every site I've been a part of. This transaction will be no exception.
