Description:

1972 Ford Bronco

Up for bids is an amazingly rare *unicorn* 1972 Ford Bronco with spectacular patina! Only 58,000 original miles. This particular Bronco is what is known as a "twin package" Bronco - it was optioned both as a "Sport" and as an "Explorer." 1972 was the only model year where the trim packages could be concurrently ordered. Also interesting to note that either of these trim packages would result in a 302 V8 engine coming standard...this however is where it gets VERY unique...our Bronco was *special* ordered with the 170 cubic inch "Thriftpower" inline 6 motor ('72 being the final year of the 170 as well). It features a standard three-on-the-tree manual transmission. It has a Dana 44 up front (they became standard in '71) as well as a Ford 9 inch rear with 4.11 gears in the back. The exterior is finished in "Light Goldenrod Yellow" (color code "X" for 1972). This Bronco was sold new at McCarney's Ford in Bismarck, North Dakota and it spent 95% of its life just down the street from the dealer it was first sold at. The story goes it was traded back in at McCarney's in 1982 and that the son of the dealership owner bought it and left it sit in his barn since 1984. It was then purchased in 2020 and shipped to Pennsylvania where it underwent an extensive mechanical restoration while being mindful of its gorgeous original paint and patina. The rock solid western frame was completely gone through and refinished. It then received ALL new body mounts, steering and suspension. The shocks were color keyed to Light Goldenrod Yellow. All new brake lines and brake hardware was installed, a new master cylinder, proportioning valve and booster were installed along with a 1977 front power disc brake conversion kit. The steering was converted to a Borgeson 4 turn power steering gear box with a Saginaw power steering pump. A 3 groove crank pulley from a 1964 Falcon was installed to accommodate the steering V-belt. A 12 volt electric vacuum pump was added to assist the brake booster due to the 6 cylinder not naturally producing enough engine vacuum. The Holley Sniper 6 cylinder fuel injection kit was added, eliminating the original Carter YF carburetor. An electric fuel pump with a pressure regulator was added, as a result a chrome Moroso mechanical fuel pump block off plate was installed. A full vehicle Centech wiring harness was installed. All new bulbs were installed. A new Interstate battery was installed. A new alternator was installed along with a voltage regulator and starter solenoid. A complete OE style exhaust system was installed, a new manifold and manifold gasket was installed. New valve cover gasket was installed. All fluids and filters were changed. The transfer case was fully rebuilt, refinished and warrantied. The clutch was replaced. Both drive shafts are new. Both differentials/axles were pulled, rebuilt, resealed, refinished and reinstalled. The seats were reupholstered and repadded. The dash board was replaced, the radio was upgraded to a Retrosound Huntington bluetooth radio with Sirius XM satellite and hands free calling. A factory style tachometer was installed. The blower motor was replaced. The steering column was sent out, refinished and rebuilt. An OEM 1972 Bronco steering wheel and horn button was installed. The front windshield was replaced. The headliner in the hard top was replaced. 4 Bias Ply Firestone Town & Country imitation tires were installed. New window regulators were installed along with new door handles and locks. The list of work on this Bronco is truly EXTENSIVE. The restoration costs were just under $80,000. If a "sleeper" patina Bronco lights your fire, then look no further than this once in a lifetime opportunity. Clear title in hand, runs and drives like a dream!
