Description:
1989 Ford F-150
Up for sale is my rare and beautiful 1989 F-150 XLT Lariat 4x4 with the extended cab and back bench seat. This truck is NOT perfect but it's as close as you can get without paying upwards of $25-30,000 for one on Bring A Trailer. I had intentions of slowly restoring this truck and holding onto it but I'm not in a position where I can let a vehicle sit just to admire it. Therefore, I am listing this for sale so I can purchase a smaller truck for daily use. The biggest selling point of this truck is the lack of rust and rot anywhere on the body and frame. The frame still has most of it's factory undercoating intact and only the mildest surface corrosion. There is no scale to be found anywhere and nothing even close to metal falling apart like with most of these in this region. The body is mostly pristine with only very minor scratches and a few dents. I tried my best to take good pictures to disclose all the imperfections on this truck but would be happy to send more detailed pictures to serious buyers. The inside of the door frames were primed by the previous owner where some surface rust had started to accumulate. This is purely cosmetic and could be easily fixed to match the paint or left alone. The grille on the truck has worn chrome being that it is 30+ years old and the headlights are original and not perfect. One holds some moisture but they still function properly. The tailgate trim is not perfect either and could use new brackets as the metal part is not well secured at the bottom, this may be a small detail but something that would be addressed in a proper restoration. The bed on the truck is perfect as far as I can tell and has always had a bed liner installed over a protective mat underneath the included ARE camper top which can be easily removed.Mechanically, the truck runs, drives and stops fine but it is 34 years old so I would expect maintenance to be needed at some point. The Ford 302 (5.0 liter) runs smoothly and has not given me any trouble in the time I have owned it. I am far from a mechanic but some things I noticed about the truck are the power steering pump makes a slight whine on turns which is consistent with most of these old Fords. The exhaust is a little loud having been cut under the bed to a welded turndown. This could be easily replaced with a proper muffler and tailpipe which I would prefer but since I am not restoring this truck for me I am leaving it alone. The Borg-Warner T-18 transmission on this truck was a factory special order along with the manual hubs and the manual windows. From my research this truck would normally be equipped with power windows, automatic hubs and either a 4 speed E4OD or a 5-speed manual. Whoever ordered this truck wanted to keep it as simple as possible while maintaining the luxury feel of the Lariat package. The interior, while rudimentary by today's standards, is very clean with two beautiful bucket seats and a rear vinyl bench. All upholstery is in great shape.
The 4x4 works great without any issues although it was very seldom used by me or the previous owner. I cannot verify the mileage for sure but the odometer reads 41,xxx and the truck is nice enough to have those miles on it. The wheels are aftermarket but tasteful and period correct, although I would probably switch them out to factory wheels and smaller tires if I were restoring the truck. On the subject of tires, the General Grabber 33s are pristine and have no dry-rot on them. Retail on these is about $350/tire. Other small issues with the truck are a small bit of oil seepage, it does not affect the oil level as far as I can tell. The A/C is currently not blowing cold, it likely just needs to be recharged. The oil pressure gauge can be a little funny sometimes, it reads in the middle mostly but can fluctuate. It's important to note this is not an oil pressure issue as the "gauge" is really just an idiot light and tells you if you're getting any pressure at all. Usually a tap on the gauge cluster resolves it. There is a small chip on the hood which has some surface corrosion, that should be fixed sooner or later but it's not a huge problem. Also it's missing a piece of the bumper trim molding on the passenger door. You can get a whole new set online for about $150 or just remove it altogether and it has shrunk and shriveled a bit over the last 34 years.
It is my intention to make sure this truck goes to someone who will treat it right and make the most of it. I have sincerely tried my best to be as open and forthcoming with all issues via my description and photos. Please be aware this is NOT a perfect truck, it is 34 years old and has been on the road NOT in a locked climate controlled garage. That being said, this is a stunning example of a rare and classic truck that could be very easily made perfect with some elbow-grease and time or used as-is with minimal work and regular maintenance. Please let me know if you have any questions, I am open to offers but not desperate to sell the truck. If you do not like the price, make me a reasonable offer or move on as there are other trucks available for sale.
Truck is also for sale locally so i reserve the right to void any sale on here in the case that it sells locally.
Please ask any questions before bidding, truck is sold as-is where is. It will be the buyers responsibility to arrange transport.
