The 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was that year's Motor Trend 'Car of the year. The award was certainly deserved: Ford had poured plenty of engineering know-how into their revamp of the '87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe.
Its 2.3 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine was now offered with the air-to-air intercooler also seen in the Ford Mustang SVO; this reengineering brought the Turbo Coupe's output up to 190 horsepower when combined with 5-speed manual transmission. In addition, the flagship Turbo Coupe came with performance extras like anti-lock disc brakes and Automatic Ride control.
A new swept-back aerodynamic redesign made the '87 Ford Thunderbird sleeker than ever. With its newly flush-mounted headlights and narrower grille, the '87 T-Bird had a sharp, forward-looking appeal. Fuel efficiency remained solid, with maximum highway mileage ranging from 24 to 30 miles per gallon.
Car is a true survivor at 89000 with a nicely presentable exterior. (Some minor dings and scratches mostly from storage) Not show quality but a very presentable driver quality with no rust. T-Bird is an all original time capsule with only the boost valve, cold air kit, Under hood insulation pad and exhaust being aftermarket. Cars interior is in excellent condition with the rare Scarlet Red Leather showing almost no signs of wear other than a small mark on driver's side bolster. No cracks in the dash or sags in the headliner. Car has a fresh NYS inspection. Five speed transmission shifts smooth and tight. This bird appears to have every option minus a Moonroof. Original sound system including graphic equalizer that sounds good with an aftermarket Bluetooth connection that does not modify equipment at all. Good tires, Brakes and tight suspension. Ford took an already solid and dependable engine in the 2.3 and over built it for use on these Turbo Coupes. Engine runs strong and i would not hesitate to drive this car across country. Ford built these cars with a high quality for the time period, with technology that was ahead of its time and it shows with how well it has held up. This Bird has had the same owner the vast majority of its life. A Very affordable entry into the classic car world ready for cruise ins, car shows and plenty of conversations every where you go. Fun to drive and could very easily be a daily driver getting close to 20 Mpg. Included with purchase is a FORD swag bag containing a copy of the Marti Report, Car Fax, original FEB 1987 Motor Trend magazine COTY edition highlighting the Turbo Coupe, Red 1987 Matchbox Turbo Coupe, 1987 Dealer insert card highlighting the Turbo Coupe and a 1987 T-Bird owners manual. With a car that is 35 years old, it does need a couple items addresed. The air conditioning is not working as it has not yet been updated to R-134A. The overhead dome light does not work, all lower lights including the lights in the doors work as they should. The equalizer power button has been made to stay on, as the button is a very common problem with these cars. The ride control is not switchable but handles and rides great. This Beautiful Bird will not last long at this price. I have included alot of pics, a detailed description so as to not have to answer a bunch of questions. These cars are becoming more rare in this condition and are definitely going up in value not down. If you are looking for one of these cars and don't want to pay thousands more in dealer premiums this is the car for you.
