1946 Ford Coupe Hot Rod powered by Cadillac
1946 Ford Business Coupe
BIT OF HISTORY
The demand for new cars was at a fever pitch in 1945. The war was over and optimism was high. Ford was determined to beat Chevrolet at their own game. Ford’s slogan was “There’s a Ford in your future.” More than a million people flocked to Ford showrooms for a publicity blitz on October 25, 1945, for the public introduction of the new 1946 Ford. Half a million people promptly placed orders putting Ford well ahead of Chevrolet. As much as $200 in under-table money was paid to dealers to secure a new Ford.
THIS FORD
This Ford is a one-of-a-kind 1946 business coupe. Nothing else like it! It is a get-in-and-go, ready-for-the-road automobile. Drive it. Show it. Have fun with it. Solid steel body, dependable, and a modern-day cruiser. It is not a trailer queen too perfect to drive. Those days are gone. Where is the fun of owning a car too perfect to drive? It is secured in my garage, ready for delivery. It is reasonably priced.
ENGINE AND DRIVE
Open the hood and stand back. Everybody, every time, is shocked and amazed when viewing the massive engine! It is powered by a 400-horsepower, 500 cubic inch, 8.2 Cadillac engine, neatly hidden under the hood. It fits perfectly, no one would know it unless it was shown. It cranks out enough power to shame almost any muscle car.
It has front-wheel drive, power steering, power brakes, and for your comfort a tilt wheel. Twin pipes out the back with a great sound offer a hint of what is within. It is tuned and the carburetor was rebuilt. An electric fuel pump was added (receipt included with the car). It looks exactly like a 1946 Ford Coupe but handles and drives like a Cadillac. The car goes through the gears effortlessly with no hitches of any kind.

INTERIOR
The interior is dramatic, up-to-date, and roomy. It is dressed for show and comfort. The black with red is the perfect color combination; attractive and luxurious. It will fit almost any taste – not gaudy, not plain – just right. Everyone will want a peek. This is a far cry from the drab fittings of 1940s vehicles. From the carpet to the headliner to the door panels, nothing needs attention. It is complete and finished. There is plenty of room for any size adult. The photos tell the story. The builder was creative and fit in a rear seat that adds a lot of look……that is what it is all about!
EXTERIOR
This is not a restored car. It is an all-steel car, solid and original. On the hoist, I looked for damage to rockers and panels. (See photos) The tires are white with good tread. All the glass is intact with only one side window cracked. The trunk is clean and solid. The new premium battery is in the trunk. The burnished finish is attractive, not perfect, but very presentable. I found no rust, not even on the bottom panels and rockers. The biggest change for the 1946 Ford was the horizontal grill with the massive upper wing. It was and is one of the car’s best features. The red accents on this car are the way Ford built it to ‘show off’ its beauty.
Most people who see this coupe have never seen one and it draws more comments and looks than most classic cars because of its honest good looks. These Fords are very difficult to find. It is surprising how many people, including those who have little interest in cars, comment on this one. It is not your all-too-common Mustang, Camero, Nova, or a ton of others.
This car is an excellent value. Looking at Hemmings, Classic Car companies, and others offering these cars for sale you will find the prices are ridiculous. This one is a hit – not just sometimes, but every time! People are drawn to it. The new owner will enjoy a one-only automobile at a reasonable price. This is the lowest production model of all 1946 Fords. Just 12,249 were built. It is a Model 77A, five-window coupe.
This is a ten-day listing and will be sold to the highest bidder. This car is being sold with an Oklahoma title and proof of purchase document. Gloria will help the buyer with paperwork, delivery, and answer your questions to make your purchase pleasant.
