1964 Ford Fairlane 500

1964 Ford Fairlane 500

Ford TV commercials in 1964 used the character Hazel as well as the Peanuts cartoon characters. The Ford Motor Company was a sponsor of the show, and also sponsored The Ford Show during the late 1950s. For the 1964 year, Ford added a Sport Coupe, which gave the Fairlane a 289ci V8, a stiffer suspension, and a louder exhaust.

For consignment a Blue Oval Fairlane 500 with a V8, souped up cam, and Edelbrock 4 bbl carb. She's looking very sporty with some American Racing wheels, and very well done paint and trimmings. This one is a driver, but presents nicely, and runs just fab!

Exterior
Bedecked in Royal Blue (why is it reserved for the Royals?!) This car has no rust, however, signs of prior bodywork at the wheel wells is starting to make a peek-a-boo with slight bubbles. The paint presents very well and is miles deep. Take a deep dive into the fit and finish and you will be impressed. From its jet contrail shaped trim spear starting from the front and leading to the rear of the back quarter with a crescendo of angled bump outs just prior to the rear wheel wells creating a "vent", we can see some added excitement in the form of a dual bordered white field encased in the dual borders in chrome. Nice Fairlane 500 badging is on the front quarters and good quality chrome is showing on the handles and mirrors. On the bottom of the B pillar is another horizontal wide strip of stainless with Sports Coupe above and a red, white and blue strip between the script and stainless. The back panel of this car utilizes turbine style round taillights which flank a shiny badge with Sports Coupe and a run of textured aluminum rear trim. Both bumpers are pristine, and the roof is excellent with its slight overhang on back. 14-inch American racing torque thrust wheels are on all 4 corners as well as some larger 205/70R14's wrapping the nice sporty wheels.

Interior
Swinging one of the doors, it immediately shows the workmanship that was put into the design of this car on these door panels. A mix of blue metal, stitched panels in lighter blue and a lower vinyl molded panel in darker blue have a wide accent trimming surrounding the handles and armrest/pull. Front low back vinyl buckets in wonderful dark blue puffy tuck and roll inserts and smooth lighter blue bolsters have a thick silvered piping separating them. This carries through to the rear seats, where see a bench version, in showroom condition. The center of the rear bench has a wide light blue vertical band and this carries forward to a center console which races through the front buckets. Here a manual shifter with a trio of gauges floating in a metal panel hangs below the dash. The dash front in brushed aluminum matte finish panels with body matching blue strips framing above and below. Below is an aftermarket radio with CD player, just above remains the original radio and temp sliders. Nice blue carpeting floods the floors, and above is a white headliner in vinyl which shows some slight waviness on the B pillar coverings.

Drivetrain
Benefitting from an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb which sits on top of a 289ci V8 original to this car, which now sports a Comp Cams 270H Magnum cam. We are gazing at a nicely preserved and spit shined engine and black bay. A 4-speed manual top loader transmission is on the back and a Ford 8-inch rear with 3.25 gears is the axle setup.

Undercarriage
All cleaned up and obviously restored then garaged since its restoration, this car has no rust, is very sound structurally, and has independent front with coil springs suspension, a leaf sprung back suspension, and power drum brakes all around. A dual Flowmaster exhaust with polished chromed pipes peek out in the rear of this car, and all underneath is just fiiiine-O-mite..

Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, smooth idle while she warms up, and we're off! Nice power and pickup, fine handling and no inoperable devices to speak of. A truly fine ride, and power steering, is just the right touch to operate.

To sum it up, a nice example of the 64 Fairlane with the exterior and interior looking like new. Some add-ons for performance and looks, and overall a good job yielding an awesome cruiser and eye catcher for this '64 Fairlane Sport Coupe.
