1950 Ford Custom

This 1950 Ford Custom Coupe is one of an assortment of projects my late father left unfinished when he passed away. The following is what I know or have been told about the car.

My father bought the car from the family of the original owner, probably 20 years or so ago. It had been stored in a garage for decades-last inspected and registered in 1957. It has 36,421 miles on it.

The interior is very good. The family told my dad that the car had seat covers installed at the dealer when new and the upholstery beneath, where the seat covers have been removed, is indeed like new. The door panels are very good and the headliner is good but is coming loose around the rear window.

The steering wheel is nearly perfect. The painted dash and all the controls are very good.

The car is extremely straight and from what I can see is rust free. I do not see rust in the quarter panels or rocker panels or along the fender seams or around the windows. The floorboards appear solid.

The car is a project, but is an excellent restoration candidate for restoration. I have a clear title in my name.

The issues I am aware of:

The hood is missing.

The bumpers and grill will need to be re-chromed.

It is a V8 car, but the original engine and transmission have been removed. They do come with the car, along with a second flathead V8. The original block has had machine work done to it and the new bearings and rings etc. come with it along with a gasket set. I am not sure about the real build status of the engine.

The paint is bad. The car had been apparently repainted when relatively new, and that paint has flaked off in places. There is some light surface rust in places but I did not see any pitting.

The door lock on the driver’s door has been removed. The passenger door glass is cracked, there are rock pecks in the windshield, and we do not have keys to the car.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will try to provide answers to the best of my ability.
