1972 Ford F-100 Custom 4x4
Ford fans, never fear, we have great vintage 4x4 pickups for you as well. Perhaps they worked harder than their Chevy counterparts did back in the day, or perhaps fewer were built, but it seems that there are not nearly as many early-70s Ford 4x4s out on the market todays. Fortunately, we recently found this beauty, which is a frame-off restored 1972 Ford F-100 Custom 4x4 that's ready to attack any project in style...In the early '70s, if you needed stuff hauled, no matter how big, a Ford like this was how you did it. As a result, finding a truck that hasn't been bashed and worked to within an inch of its life is no easy task. Fortunately, this one led an easier life of leisure living in the South mostly as a farm truck, so when it was time for the restoration, the foundation was solid. The Good 'Ol Boy that built this one did it the right way too, with both the cab and the bed taken off-the-frame and with as many original parts as possible (he even bought an accompanying donor truck from which to pilfer and refurbish parts when needed). The Electric Blue paint is recent and shows only very minor signs of use, but by vintage truck standards, it's very nice. The paint is single stage application and has a great shine and luster, with a driver-quality finish that is perfect for the broad muscles of this tough old Ford. There's no rust thanks to a lifetime in the Southern sun, and the sheetmetal is very strong with good panel gaps and those two big doors shut firm and seal up tight, even with new rubber gaskets all around. Bottom-line, it's just a really clean heavy-duty pickup that's ready for new adventures. The chrome bumpers shine up great against the light blue paint, all of the shiny Custom trim and moldings were retained for the factory look, and the iconic front grille and rear tailgate panel bookend this Blue Oval beauty, giving it a highly detailed look. The heavy-duty chrome bumper out back that looks right at home on the big Ford and the bed has been completely painted to match the body, with super straight rails and bed walls that have obviously not seen much action in their day. Sure, the bed can haul just about anything, but it's so nice back there you may think twice before you fill it up with dirt.
Black is the theme inside, where a fresh vinyl seat cover for the factory bench offers comfortable accommodations for three. The cab was insulated and the floors were then covered with plush carpets that keep the outside elements at bay, there's a new protective pad on the painted stock dash, and the headliner above ties everything together resulting in a much more comfortable look and feel inside this F-100. A two-spoke Ford steering wheel anchors the interior just like it did in 1972, and the original instruments inside the stock gauge bezel are still intact, offering a pretty good idea of what's going on under the hood. Gear are manages by the tall shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission below, so it's a lot of fun to drive on or off road, and the lever next to it controls the 2-speed transfer case so you really can go just about anywhere you darn well please in this Ford. The only deviations from stock are the Pioneer stereo and the knob atop the 4-speed shifter, which goes to show you that keeping this old girl stock was an absolute priority during the comprehensive build. And the results speak for themselves.
This is a big truck, but fortunately, there's a big V8 to move it around. The 360 is what this pickup would've been born with (as you may know, Ford did not stamp VINs on their engines, so "numbers-matching" cannot be verified) and this one is freshly rebuilt according to the restorer, after which it was dressed in bright Ford Blue paint on the block and refinished factory air cleaner, along with finned valve covers and neatly detailed components throughout. Underneath there's an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and a performance intake manifold, plus a fresh ignition and wiring set-up, so this V8 is more than just pretty. With all that recent work, it starts easily and runs wonderfully, and the rumble from the Flowmaster dual exhaust system sounding more like a vintage muscle car than a big pickup. The chassis was completely sand-blasted and then painted black with protective enamel that should hold up long after we're gone, and not only was this is a very practical application, but it also resulted in a super-clean undercarriage that can be shown off with great pride. Everything is heavy-duty enough to go just about anywhere thanks to a coil-spring lift on the suspension, and with manual locking hubs and a durable Ford 9-inch rear end, you don't have to worry about fragile parts getting broken at the least opportune moment. Power steering and power brakes mean this Ford has great road manners as well, and the steering stabilizer up front helps this big girl track true. 15-inch black alloys adorned with shiny beauty rings wear rugged 33x12.50-15 Wild Country all-terrain tires that finish off the vintage look perfectly.
This truck is definitely up for whatever you're looking to do, and thanks to the heavy-duty hardware and comprehensive frame-off restoration, you'll never have to worry about getting stuck. These vintage 4x4s never last at Streetside, especially when they're this clean Call today!
