1932 Ford Sedan Delivery

It can be confidently said that the 1932 Ford Delivery in our shop expresses the best workmanship of any custom build we shown to date. It is evidenced through our images, the interview with the owner, the industry talent enlisted to do the creative fabrications and the history of the build. There were less than 1,000 original 1932 Delivery Sedans, including 4 cylinder and V-8 models, built by Ford that year. Scarcity and these low production numbers make original factory steel bodied cars incredibly collectable in stock condition, leaving very few to be “Resto-Rodded” despite current demand. Reproductions are the most common source of these models, fiberglass being the most practical, which our Harwood Body car is. It is practical to say few people have the capacity for this level of work, the top 1% of builders. Thousands have said they could do it and failed, not only doing work poorly but failing paying customers with substandard work and incompletion. There is an expression which rings true: “Good work is not cheap and cheap work is often times not good”. It certainly rings true with custom builds. Today the world is much wiser and enthusiasts who want to own an expression of work are hesitatent to be involved in such projects. They would much rather buy a finished project that expressed the craftsmanship the industry so admires. Following his heart and not his sense of an ending, our customer made a clear and simple choice for a shop, Kemp’s Rod and Restoration, Inc. of Hancock, Wisconsin. I am incapable of accurately representing the car by description and that does not happen often after my forty years of cars and motorcycles. What I have is a thick over organized binder that starts with the build strategy in 2003 before a single part was bought. This is followed by chapters detailing each build component, the Engine, Fuel and Air system, Drivetrain, Chassis, Electrical, Body, Interior, AC and of course, MISC. Each chapter not only describes the components acquired, but the process of installing them in the car with details that might be used if a duplicate were to be built. Unbelievable. Next is a detailed description after the car was built listing each and every component installed. Finally, a letter from Kemp’s Rod and Restoration, Inc. that built the car, describing in his words his creation and the estimated market replacement cost as of 02/04/2020. A lot of documentation, details of everything that the next owner could possibly need. As a bonus, a wonderful coffee table book with build images is included with the car. We took a couple of videos of John talking about the car, please visit our site to see all of them. How does it drive and feel? Spectacularly! The best street or hot rod I have had the experience to be in. Two items stand out to me. The first is the front hood and side panels. The hood was lengthened and shaped to meet the radiator surround, allowing the incredible billet accessory drive system to be in place. Not a sign of a weld or joint can be seen top or bottom, incredible work. The next is the interior. The interior details casts a shadow on the exterior if that were possible. The interior metal work is in my opinion the high light of the car, absolutely the best. This one of a kind approach using aluminum sheets which were cut, formed and shaped to cover every interior surface, gives an industrial, impressive unique feel to the interior. The panels with all their stainless hardware fasteners left exposed (and there are hundreds) is an understated expression of the massive detail shown. The free formed panels are covered with a proprietary textured finish, color matched to the shortened leather covered seats. Than again, the chassis is my favorite, right behind the paint, the plumbing and wiring, each spectacular in its execution. In person these facets jump out to you when standing near the car, no matter where you look, you are held by the work and skill that our 32 delivers. Attempting to put all of this into a phrase, “Sensationally exceptional” is as close as I can come. So, why after 16 years of building is the car being sold after being shown one time in LA? Because the joy was in the process, it is now finished. It won in its first and only outing. It will be seen for the first time at all of the other venues it may attend to collect further awards and trophies. For the other 99% of us, this is how you own a show winning car, buying someone else’s efforts and their financial investment. The rational way. For more images send us your e-mail address and I will forward them on to you. The bike is available for inspection 9-5, Monday through Friday at Automania, 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, OR 97528, 541 479 8888, Oregon Dealer DA1287.
