1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS

In mid-February 1968, he CaliforniaFordDealers (Ford Dealer Advertising Fund) began to market a factory-built, imited-editionMustang, alled the GT/CS, r "California Special". The hope was for a targeted production run of 5,000; however, nly 4118 were made, ncluding 251 units that were remarketed in Denver, olorado, s "High Country Special '68". Production ran for only 5.5 months from mid-February 1968 to early August 1968. Today, lassic car collectors consider these cars to be very desirable.Lee Grey was the Southern California district sales manager for Ford and he was looking for something unique to spark the sales of Mustangs in Los Angeles. Ford dealers had tried promotions like the "1967 Rainbow Colored Mustangs", s well as by adding accessories and options to dress up cars for public view. The objective was to make the Mustangs sold in California unique and to look "custom" made, hus differentiating them from the standard models available elsewhere.


ShelbyAutomotive, ow part of Ford, as assigned the task of designing and engineering the necessary parts and assembly procedures for the GT/CS. This was done right alongside the development of their 1968 Shelby. The fiberglass parts were crafted at A.O. Smith, n Ionia, ichigan, n steel molds. A.O. Smith was also the same OEM manufacturer for theCorvettefiberglass bodies. The failed fiberglass parts for the GT/CS included: the rear decklid and end caps, aillight panel, nd side scoops (RH and LH).


This GT/CS has all theoriginal parts (engine / suspension / steering) that will also ship with the car, ut has been professionally modified to make this PonyTruly "Special". We started off withsafety, nd installed power disk brakes up front, ollowed by all new wiring harness, ie rod ends, ew "Flaming River" powersteering with Grant Steering wheel and front suspension. We then then got to the fun part...with a 302 (328HP) crate motor from Tuff Dawg Engines out of Pheonix, Zand added a new radiator, and ported andpolishedHolly headsand a SHELBY SUPERCHARGER to give this bad boy around 400-450HP.. We then rebuilt the C4 tanny put in a new 3.73 rear end with Auburn Limited Slip Differential. Followed that up with Heidt'spowder coated 4 link adjustable coil over rear suspension, rame stiffer and subframe connectors. Added new wheels and tires (99%tread) & all new interior with Sony detach face CDsystem. ALL mechanical component of this GT/CS have been opened up, epaired, eplaced, pdated or added to. I have ALL thereceipts to back this up (over 20K easy). This sounds like it looks and turns heads every were you go! Remember...all original matching numbers components to this car comes with the sale (Engine, uspension & Steering).
