1934 Ford Other --
Love the looks of a '34 roadster, but perhaps looking for something a little more weather-friendly? How about this slick-looking 1934 Ford Cabriolet, which has the same awesome open-air vibe as the roadster, but with the protection of a folding top, roll-up windows, and windshield wipers that actually work (when the arms are installed). Throw in the strong 351 Windsor V8 under the hood, along with a quick-shifting automatic and a solid set of options, and you've looking at a very impressive Ford droptop that's turn-key and ready to go.There's nothing subtle about this slick Candy Apple Red streetrod, but that's entirely the point. Sure, the body is fiberglass, made by the pros at Classic Motor Carriages to be exact, but the look is timeless, and everywhere you go, folks recognize the appeal of the 1934 Ford droptop. From the pointed radiator shell and sweeping fenders to the raked-back windshield and smoothly tapered rear deck, there's something here that will appeal to everyone, and the fact that it's totally functional as a real car is something that most rods attempt, but not all achieve. Workmanship is quite good, and with fiberglass, it's easy to get great gaps and a solid feel, and with that vivid red paint job, the shape simply speaks for itself. It features stock-style suicide doors with shaved door handles, modern aerodynamic side mirrors, and 1938-39 Lincoln Zephyr teardrop taillights that have been neatly incorporated into the rear fenders as if they always belonged. Black rubber on the running boards add a classic old-school vibe, as does the black vinyl convertible top that stacks up high in the back, and the smooth chrome bumpers fore and aft provide just enough contrast to the Candy Apple Red finish.
Black cloth upholstery complements the bodywork nicely, and offers more comfort in an open car than sticky vinyl or sweaty leather might. The stitching and patterns on the power bucket seats give the interior a modern look, as do the matching door panels replete with billet hardware, arm rests, and speakers, and those twin buckets make it easy for everyone to get comfortable by offering plenty of leg room and comfort thanks to the 8-way position options. Old-school looking gauges from Vintage Reproduction highlight the modern dash, which roughly approximates the shape of the original 1934 design. With a tilt column and sporty Dino 3-spoke wheel, it has a great look that's again more modern, and the vents inside the red dash pump cold R134a A/C throughout the cabin. Lokar supplied the billet shifter, and if you want entertainment other than what's controlled by you right foot, a JVC AM/FM/CD head unit was cleverly installed into the dash as well. Weather protection is provided by a snug-fitting black top with a decent-sized rear window (no blind spots!) and the trunk is neatly finished with gray carpets and perfect for, say, the Hot Rod Power Tour.
But this rod is no poser that needs the help of GM to make its moves. The engine is a Ford-powered 351 cubic inch Windsor V8 fed by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake that runs great. A Walter Prosper aluminum dual element breather assembly kit with matching aluminum valve covers should look familiar to anyone who has ever driven a vintage Ford streetrod before, and it's entirely appropriate here. Polished components throughout the engine bay look great against the dark red bodywork and the overall look is serious and functional rather than over-done. Block-hugging long-tube headers dump into a custom-built H-pipe dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers, so this sucker really cackles. The suspension is a Mustang II setup in front with power rack-and-pinion steering and power front disc brakes, while a 10-bolt rear end out back hangs on a Mustang trailing arm setup. There's also a 3-speed automatic transmission in the middle that handles all the power with ease and shifts well. It nails the perfect stance with 15-inch wire wheels wearing skinny 185/60/15 front and fat 225/60/15 rear blackwall radials.
