1969 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible
Rare, interesting, and quite striking, this 1969 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible is that perfect cool classic cruiser. And with the rebuilt correct 390 V8 and four-on-the-floor, it's also the ideal choice for a droptop muscle machine. The '69 Fairlane was arguably one of Ford's most attractive designs of the 1960s because it offered an elegant simplicity that had a hint of European influence. And the paint on this coupe highlights this idea perfectly. The factory-correct Indian Fire has the boldness or red but with a more sophisticated tone. Plus, it was resprayed with an added metallic element and a modern clearcoat shine. The result is a look that radiates in the sunlight, and that's exactly what you want on a sunshine-friendly convertible. Add in mirror-like chrome bumpers and full-length trim, and you're looking at a well presented classic package. But there's much more to this coupe. The Mag-style wheels, hood pins, and hood scoop all let everyone know there is aggression within its elegance.
The white convertible top looks great against the creamy red paint. And with the flip of a switch, it powers down to reveal an equally attractive white interior. While these were intermediate sized in '69, today that means plenty of space to share with family and friends. There are great classic details, from the wood-like trim on the doors, to the working indicators on the back of the hood scoop. And the upgraded AM/FM/cassette tuner has a retro style that integrates nicely. But no matter if you have everyone along or just going solo, the bucket seats up front make this a driver-focused machine. The wood-rimmed sports steering wheel feels great in your hands. Beyond that, the dashboard's four round gauge pods make drivers feel like they were in an Italian sports car (it's more of that European flair we mentioned from the exterior.) And the factory tach goes nicely with the Hurst shifter.
Under the hood, the big 390 cubic-inch V8 is the correct displacement for this car, and it's even believed to be the original motor! The engine was rebuilt in 2004 by a professional speed shop, and they included flat top pistons (10.5:1 compression), ported heads, SS valves, roller rockers, and a Crane cam. The mighty motor inhales deeply with a Holley 750 CFM four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with a sweet sound out of a newer dual exhaust installed in 2018. The four-speed manual transmission means you are in full control over this full power package and its rumbling soundtrack. And this feeds the upgraded Ford 9-inch rear with versatile 3.50 gears. The undercarriage photos show you how clean this whole build is and why it feels so solid on the road. Plus, power steering and power brakes w/discs up front complete a great driving package.
Not only do you have a rare color, but they only produced about 4,800 convertibles across the whole Fairlane line in '69. In fact, we even have the deluxe Marti Report to show you how singular this one is. The sale also comes with the owner's manual and reproduction window sticker. It's all part of a sleek, powerful, and all-around great droptop total package. Call today!!!
