1966 Ford Mustang Excellent Driver 289ci V8 4BBL, 3spd Manual Transmission 520 Miles Since Restoration VIN: 6R07C180701 6: 1966 Model Year R: San Jose, CA Assembly Plant 07: 2dr Hardtop C: 289ci V8, 2BBL 180701: Production Number Original Spec Body: Coupe, Standard Interior (65A) Color: Springtime Yellow (8) Trim: Black, Black Trim (26) Build Date: April 4th 1966 (04D) District Sales Office: Los Angeles, CA (71) Axle: 2.80:1 Standard Differential (6) Transmission: 3spd Manual (1) Exterior: - Please see the video along with the listing, as the car is shown in detail. Blemishes are all shown close-up. Imperfections... include a few small paint bubbles, a couple spots of touch-up, and a ding on the trunk lid. - Originally Springtime Yellow, the car underwent a repaint in black under previous ownership. Paint looks quite good. A nice glassy finish, not swirly or orange-peely like we often see on black cars. A few minor spots with visible dust nibs if you look for it, nothing glaring. - Body is nice and straight. Aside from the ding on the trunk lid, no dents, door dings, etc. We put a paint gauge on the car and were pleased with the findings. The only spots where the paint meter indicated any filler was a spot along the bottom of the driver's door, as well as at the forward corner of the passenger door. Quarters and fenders are nice and dry, no bubbling under the flares or anything like that. - Polished surfaces are very nice. Front and rear bumper are free of oxidation, mirror-like finish. Trim pieces are all excellent, and the weatherstripping is in good shape, not tired or dried out. 17" Torque Thrust wheels are excellent, with no oxidation or damage. Tires were new in 2015 and remain in close-to-new condition. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Panel fitment is spot on and the doors/hood/trunk open and close smoothly and easily. Though the passenger door handle could use a look - it currently just opens from the inside. Interior: - Again, please defer to the photos and video. Interior is very nice. Black vinyl bucket seats are free of any punctures, scuffs, or significant signs of age. Rears are excellent. Headliner is clean and is not sagging. Retro radio is functional and sounds great. Heat/fan/defrost are functional. This car does not have air conditioning. Aftermarket gauges were fitted when the engine was rebuilt under previous ownership, and odometer indicates just 520 miles since then. Actual chassis mileage unknown. Unfortunately the fuel gauge and temp gauge do not read accurately, and there is a crack in the lens of the tach. Dash top is very nice, with no cracks or warping. Carpet is in good shape throughout. Slight age in the passenger footwell, still very much presentable. Underbody/Under the Hood: - Please take a look at the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. Underbody is excellent. Bone dry. Absolutely no through rust, nothing more than minor surface on various components. Shocks are new. Rubber bushings appear to be in nice shape, not dry and cracked. No evidence of any significant active leaks. - Car runs and drives very well. This isn't a concours car, it's a driver. And that is what exactly it does best. A well-sorted 289 with a manual transmission is tough to beat. Car fires right up, idles nice and steady, pulls HARD through the gears, sounds fantastic, up and downshifts very smoothly, has good clutch feel, and brakes straight and effectively. Engine bay is nice and tidy, and while this was originally a C-Code 289ci 2BBL, this car now runs an Edelbrock 4BBL carb, Edelbrock intake, and MSD ignition. It has also been lowered by 1.5”, so the fitment of the 17" Torque Thrusts is juuust right. - The car will not come with documentation from the restoration performed under previous ownership, reportedly less than ten year ago. The engine was rebuilt at this time, though we cannot specify exactly what went into it. Regardless, as the car sits today, it is a very strong runner and a total blast to drive.
