Windsor 260 V8 with a Holley 2-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Performer 289 manifold. 164 hp & 258 ft-lb. torque, Wilwood
brake master cylinder. electronic coil and new cooling fans. It has no radio installed but has extra gauges mounted under
the dash - oil pressure and water temp. Purchased by the most recent owner on 09/25/2011 from R. Bruder in Golden,
CO, who had owned the car since 01/26/2000. This Futura is very solid underneath, and has a very solid body. The
floorpans and trunk areas have no rust, the metal around the windshield is in excellent condition, showing no rust (the
windshield was replaced in Sept 2019). The body is very straight with no dents or dings, although there is no rust, with
closer inspection the paint on every body panel shows some sort of flaw - chips, cracks, spiderwebbing etc. Nobody
would be embarrassed to be seen driving this Falcon, but someone wanting perfect cosmetics should plan on a total
repaint. The motor starts right up, idles smoothly and doesn't smoke or burn oil. The transmission shifts smoothly and
the car drives extremely well. The steering is tight and the car has great brakes. This Falcon comes with brand new 15”
Superlite rims with new Toyo Proxes tires, as well as the original set of factory rims. The body plate info shows the car
is mostl as-built, but at some point in its history the factory manual trans was exchanged for an automatic, and bucket seats
with custom mounts replaced the factory bench seat. Overall it's a very nice and solid example of a Futura Hardtop with
some cosmetic needs. Comes with a clean IN title.

1964-1965 Falcon:The Falcon went through its first complete makeover when the '64 models bowed in late 1963. The second generation Falcon, launched in 1964, featured revised, more squared-off styling. More chiseled and square-edged than its predecessor, the car appeared larger than before, though truthfully was only incrementally so. TV commercials now used the character Hazel as well as the Peanuts cartoon characters. The Ford Motor Company was a sponsor of the show, and also sponsored The Ford Show during the late 1950s. A large variety of body styles continued with two sedans, two wagons, sedan deliveries, Rancheros, convertibles, hardtops, and vans. All told, there were 17 Falcon models, five engines, and four transmissions - something for just about every consumer. A 200ci six-cylinder arrived in 1964, while the 289 followed in 1965. Using thin-wall casting, this now proven and respected engine (it debuted in Fairlanes and similar Mercury Meteors) had been taken to 260 cubic inches and was rated at 164 horsepower. Known as the Challenger V-8, it was the same engine that Carroll Shelby was stuffing into the little AC Ace roadsters that he called Cobras, At $196.30, the 260 V-8 was the most bang for the buck among U.S. compacts.
Though it wouldn't embarrass a Super/Stock terror of the day, the V-8 did wonders for Falcon acceleration. Car and Driver's test of a four-speed Sprint convertible at the Ford Proving Grounds yielded "0-to-60 in less than 11 seconds consistently, and quarter-mile times were right in the high seventeens and low eighteens." Several specially prepared Sprints were sent to Europe to contest the Monte Carlo Rally. When the results were in, Falcon had proven itself to be a world-leader, something the other compacts from America were never able to do.
For 1964, the Sprint continued as the sportiest offering, in both hardtop and convertible form. Initially, the '64 Sprint came with much of the same equipment as the previous year, including standard V-8, chrome engine trimmings, bucket seats/console, dash-mounted tach, and wire wheel covers. Front suspension was coil springs pivot-mounted on upper arms plus double-acting absorbers. Six-cylinder cars had four-lug hubs with 13-in steel wheels. V-8 cars got five-lug wheels. For 1965, changes were minimal, including a simpler grille and revised side trim on deluxe models. Production ended on June 26, 1965, for convertible Falcons. A padded instrument panel, power steering, power brakes, a radio, a remote-control trunk release, and a parking brake warning light were optional. Later in the year however, some de-contenting occurred, with Ford even advertising the "new lower priced Sprint"-with buckets, console, and tach no longer standard. The Futura series offered even more glitz, with chrome trim running along the side contours, rear fender chevrons, and rear panel trim, plus full carpeting and more luxurious seating surfaces. The Futura convertible received the Special Six upgrade as standard. Futura Sports Coupe and Sports Convertible models continued to include lush bucket seats and console, but in several months the Mustang would take that formula and give America something new and different.
Falcon sales in general (and Sprints in particular) took an expected big hit with the introduction of the Mustang. It was a fact that dramatically influenced the product lineup during the following five years. Because the Mustang had the same options that the Sprint had for only a small amount more, the Sprint never caught on. Even with the addition of the 289 V8 in late '64, the Sprint was overshadowed by the Mustang, and was discontinued after 1965. The Mustang dealt Falcon sales in North America a blow from which they would never recover. Total production for 1964-1965 was around 430,000, with 32.608 being Futura Hardtop Coupes.
