1962 Ford Fairlane

1962 Ford Fairlane

The Ford Fairlane is an automobile model that was sold between 1955 and 1970 by Ford in North America. The name is derived from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. The Fairlane 500 is noted by a wider chrome trim on the side, and 3 bullet ports on the rear quarter panel.

This 1962 driver quality Fairlane has been restored to a useable car. Earlier rust problems have been addressed, and the car has been repainted. A beautiful interior of Cranberry and White Velour, and a refurbished engine, are a few highlights presented in this car.

Exterior
Burgundy paint covers the exterior which the consigner states required no body work, just paint. Chrome is pitted, and some peeling is present on handles, and brightwork. Aftermarket black woven pattern wheels are seen all around. Front and rear grilles are in good condition as well as headlight trim, and tail light surrounds. A chrome band of Fairlane 500 badging at the rear roof pillar and presents in fair condition. Original bumpers have been painted to match exterior color. Underneath reveals a patchwork quilt of various previous rust through repairs, but all appears to be structurally sound. This includes a driver's side floorboard, and trunk floor repairs. Turn signals are not present, as consigner stated they could not be found.

Interior
Cranberry crushed velour with light cream inserts are seen in a vertical tufted pattern on the front split bench seating, as well as the door panels. Vinyl door pulls with fair condition chrome window cranks and door openers. A metal center console had been fabricated to fit in the center of the bench seat. This contains an aftermarket radio, as well as a CD and iPod players. Consigner states that originally the car was a radio delete car, so the fabricated console houses the new radio. There is no antenna hooked up, but there are working speakers throughout that allows the driver to listen to CD or iPod music. If you want the car to go back to original, this console can be easily removed. An aftermarket steering wheel has been added, and the original dash repainted. All gauges are original and in working condition. Red loop pile carpeting covers the floor in front and rear.

Drivetrain
A 221ci V8 sits under the hood. This is the original engine that came with the car, and it is connected to a 3-speed automatic transmission. Consigner states that front suspension should most likely be redone, as it is original, and would be a better handling car with an improved front suspension and steering. Air shocks have been installed, and ride height is seen higher than original car. 4-wheel drum brakes are from the original car but have been fitted with new pads.

A definitely original metal panel exterior car, just repainted, and various rust issues underneath, replaced with new steel inserts. A beautiful interior, totally redone, surrounds the passengers with upgraded luxury. An aftermarket stereo, which can be removed and brought back to original radio delete car is an option for a new owner.
