1970 Ford E-Series Van Chateau

Top of the line model with every option. The Chateau is one step above the Custom wagon two above the Club wagon and three above the Econoline. One ton vehicle (the top) not 3/4 or 1/2 ton. 123" wheelbase not the 105". Solid Arizona van. 4 new tires with roughly 400 miles on them these are radials mounted to the original 16.5" rims with the original hubcaps. 4 new shocks also. Optional high output heater and defroster. Factory A/C with the great overhead vents (because cold air sinks and you can angle one on the back of your neck) not the dealer installed glove box unit. Vehicle reportedly was not started for about 25 years when l purchased it 3 1/2 years ago. Engine was stuck gave it good soaking and got it going. The A/C clutch engages and the compressor runs quietly but needs freon. Can recharge with R12 or easily convert to R134. Has 4th row seat giving seating for 12. Very few have the full width rear seat. Still has a good storage area behind it. Carpet and headliner have been replaced. Headliner is mounted with original screws in original locations. Covered the original cracked dash pad with new vinyl. Exterior is Brittany Blue and Wimbledon White. Front bucket seat bottoms in rough condition but the rest are good, seats are comfortable and very pliable.
The original AM radio is missing was swapped out to an old Sparkomatic AM/FM cassette long ago. Has two gas tanks, both have been cleaned out. All glass is good but one small hinged window has been replaced with a stationary piece. The original hinged frame comes with vehicle. Windshield wipers, gauges, turn signals, brake lights, dash lights, courtesy lights, cigarette lighter, horn and all three bowers work. Even runs cool here in Arizona summers. Has tow hitch with 5 pin electrical connect mounted in bumper. Comes with the Chateau Club Wagon emblems and 123 emblems, not mounted. The "123" are bragging on the huge, for the time, 123" wheelbase. All armrests and seatbelts are there. New: Rebuilt carburetor with automatic choke, fuel pump, modern high torque mini starter, starter relay, front brake shoes, battery, water pump. Old starter and water pump come with and work fine. Believe water pump is the fifty year old pump as are some heater and radiator hose. Still good. This Chateau is celebrating it's 50th birthday this month. Starts instantly when cold, about a second longer when warmed up. Sure it lost some compression from being stuck but runs smooth doesn't knock, tick or smoke. This van has the beefier 302 block, numbers matching, and can be rebuilt to much more horsepower than the standard 302. One muffler was no good put in a straight pipe. Can get replacement chrome sidepipes for under $300 and are easy to install. The fiberglass insulation in these Chateaus is 2" thick, more than double many old vehicles. Even the doors have fiberglass insulation. So a quiet exhaust may be the way to go since it's so well insulated. All the rubber suspension bushings are old and dry rotted.
