Updated motor and transmission five speed manual
1966 Ford Mustang --
A little bit of road race, a little bit of luxury, and a touch of Shelby make this 1966 Ford Mustang coupe stand out in a big way. There are some substantial upgrades under the skin to make it ride and drive like a more modern car and there's no denying the sinister look that transforms the friendly Mustang into a hardcore piece of iron. We know Shelby didn't build coupes for public consumption, but the ones... they took to the track might have looked a bit like this slick little coupe. Of course, Shelby was about speed, so nothing they were building looked this pretty, with miles-deep Raven Black paint and contrasting white stripes to really make it pop. There's a billet grille up front and the 5.0 badges makes the simple Mustang look aggressive without being over-done. Finish quality is quite good for a car with this much performance, showing that not only was the focus on going fast but also looking good and when you show up in this pony, people are definitely going to notice. The chrome bumpers look almost new and they added a GT rear valence with the trumpet exhaust poking through, which is always a welcome upgrade on an early Mustang. This car really has a great look! The gorgeous two-tone interior isn't like any early Mustang you've driven. Black vinyl buckets with purple inserts are infinitely more comfortable than the original stools and with a tunnel-hugging center console, it feels more like 2006 than 1966 inside. A wood-rimmed steering wheel and stock-style door panels are a link to the past, but the instrument panel full of trick aftermarket instruments gives the dash a whole new look. A retro-style stereo commands the center of the dash, and just below it juts out the Hurst shifter that manages the 5-speed manual transmission underneath. The work was done right so everything is in great condition and holding up well, including the back seat that wears two-tone seat covers to match the front buckets and the trunk is finished with a correct carpeted Mustang mat and provides plenty of room for all your car show goodies. Like all great early Mustangs, this one packs a snarling 302 cubic inch motor that definitely wants to run. It was swapped in from a later-model Stang and features the usual upgrades like an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, and a modern ignition to light it up with a quick flick of a key. It's dressed to impress with chrome valve covers and a matching air cleaner, along with a detailed look that's mostly traditional V8 performance. A big aluminum radiator keeps the whole show nice and cool and a set of long-tube headers feed a Flowmaster exhaust system so it sounds like Lemans all over again. The original 3-speed manual transmission is gone, replaced by a slick-shifting 5-speed with overdrive, so it's a great highway cruiser and fun every time you get behind the wheel. The front suspension has a fat sway bar and disc brakes, so it handles beautifully. Big 15-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels tie it to the '60s but are fitted with modern 215/60/15 front and 245/60/15 rear Cooper Cobra performance radials. With just enough race gear to feel potent, this cool pro-touring style pony delivers lots of fun with a vintage twist, all at a very affordable price. Call today!
