Description:

1965 Ford Mustang 2+2

This is a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback 2+2 built to look like a 1966 Shelby GT-350 Mustang. This is not an original Shelby but a replica.

DriveTrain: Engine: 289 cu in that has been balanced very well. Redline is about 7500 rpm. Melling High volume Oil pump, Stock crank, stock rods and has about a 10:1 compression ratio. This is not a high horsepower engine but is very strong and reliable for street use. I do not remember the specs on the cam but it does have a healthy lobe. Ported iron cylinder heads with large valves, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, Holley 1850 Vacuum Secondary 4bbl carburetor, blow-proof bell housing, aluminum radiator and return-less electric fuel pumps.

Exhaust 2.5" Flow Masters, Mid-Length Headers that have been thermal coated. Exhaust tailpipes have been put on to be legal but they run under the axle due to clearance issues. They can be easily removed if not desired. Mufflers have a good deep tone to them.

Transmission: Tremec 3550 5-Speed with Overdrive in Great condition. This car has been setup with a cable clutch instead of the old z-bar linkage for added reliability.

Differential: Ford 9" with 4.11 Gears and a Posi-trac. Housing is from an LTD (large bearing) that has been narrowed to fit the mini tubs.

Brakes: Baer Brakes with slotted and Cross drilled Rotors. 2 Piston calipers in the front and single piston calipers in the rear.

Steering & Suspension: Front 750lb/in Coil springs on Global West Negative wedge control arms, 1-1/4" Sway bar. Rear:5.5 Leaf Springs with Sway bar. Flaming River Rack and Pinion Steering and a Flaming River Tilt Steering Column. The turn signals still need to be wired in from the new column.

Body: Professionally installed 6-point roll cage. Sub-Frame Connectors, 66 Shelby front air dam, 66 Shelby Fiberglass hood (with Steel reinforcements). The hood is held on with 4 racing pins and can easily be lifted off with one hand/arm. The hood hinges have been removed but they can still be re-added if desired as the bolt holes are still there. Fenders have been flared to accommodate the lowered suspension and oversized tires and the rear has been mini-tubbed. The back seat has been removed because of this but there is still enough room to have a back seat made and installed but you would need to remove the roll cage cross bar. The body is very straight and the doors shut easily.

The paint is by no-means a show quality paint job but does well for the street. There are a few chips in the paint and I have tried to show all of these in the pictures.

Wheels are the Mini-10 spoke 17" wheels. I believe the fronts are 17x8 and the rear is 17x10's. The rear tires are 315/35/R17 and the Fronts are 245/45/R17

Interior: Red Pony interior, 5-point Seat belts, 5" tachometer mounted to steering wheel and an aftermark gauge cluster that needs some attention. Steering column is a brand new flaming river adjustable/tilt column. Rear seat area has a custom platform covered in carpet.

Safety Upgrades: Gas tank has been replaced with a fuel cell, brakes upgraded to Baer brakes, professionally installed 6-point roll cage, hydraulic hand brake, and 5-point seat belts.

History: This car has been in our family for over 20 years and has been a lot of fun for us. The only reason I have decided to sell it is that I have other projects that I would like to work on and this one is not getting used as much as she used to.

This was NOT a drag race car. It was built and used for some recreational high speed touring at Hallett Motor Speedway between my father and I and it handles very well. It has never been wrecked as long as we have owned it but I don't know the history before then. The body and frame is very straight and there are no signs of it ever being in a wreck.

There is a lot of information here but if you have any questions, please ask prior to bidding.
