1965 Ford Mustang Convertible
We should be grateful to old Mustangs like this 1965 Ford Mustang convertible. The Mustang is not only the granddaddy of the pony car, but it's a gateway to the hobby that remains affordable, fun, and universally loved. There just aren't many other vehicles that are known around the world that can also deliver this much fun for so little cash. This C-code ragtop is Exhibit A in the case of why Mustangs are great. First, it... looks awesome, from the styling to the proportions to the code 5 Twilight Turquoise paint, which gives it a traditional high-visibility Mustang look. It is indeed this car's original color, and you can imagine the delighted first owner taking it home nearly fifty years ago, top down and a big, silly grin on his or her face. Well, that's what'll happen today when this car's next owner comes to collect it, too. This isn't a show car, so you don't need to fret about rain and bugs on the grille, but it does look good enough to make you wash it in the FRONT yard rather than out back, just so folks can see it. The paint job isn't brand new but shines up well and captures the original color pretty darned well. They skipped the stripes and fake GT bits, but it does have a beautiful "cross hairs" grille, the famous quarter panel insert, and shiny chrome bumpers that look and fit great. The two-tone, pony interior is a great complement to the bright bodywork, offering a familiar disposition and adds to the Mustang's light-hearted attitude. The seat covers are high-end reproductions that have very little signs of use, and the matching light blue carpets seem to anchor the interior. Factory-style door panels are in great condition, too, complete with chrome window and door handles. A highly-desirable middles console is adorned with brightwork and wood applique, and houses the shifter for the C4 automatic transmission. The 3-spoke, wood-rimmed steering wheel rests atop a tilt column and is in excellent condition and the wide speedometer and auxiliary gauges that flank it are crisp, clean, and fully functional. This car carries the important options like a retro-style AM/FM radio, power convertible top, power 4-disc brakes, and power steering, all of which make it daily-driver friendly, and the trunk offers a reproduction plaid mat and spare tire cover (with spare tire, of course). The interchangeability of the Ford small blocks means that you can shoehorn a few extra cubes under the hood of an early Mustang and nobody will be the wiser. In this case, it's a 302 cubic inch V8, better known as the 5.0, whose performance and reliability are legendary. Punched up with the help of ATK aluminum heads, an Edelbrock intake and shorty headers, this motor springs to life through the FAST Fuel injection unit installed on top of the block. It's nicely dressed with black Ford Racing valve covers and matching air cleaner, and a few other niceties, but the real goal was making it reliable and fast with a performance plus OEM look. In that regard, the shorty header-fed X-pipe dual exhaust system with Flowmaster-style mufflers exhausting under the rear valence continue to toe the line between performance upgrades and OEM stock. A C4 automatic transmission feeds an 8-inch rear end, and power 4-wheel disc brakes are fitted all around for impressive stopping power. Steel wheels with wire hubcaps look very right on a droptop Pony and carry 235/45/17 Firestone whitewall radials. So have a look and remember that this car has been America's sweetheart for decades, and there's no chance of that affair ending any time soon. Find out why by giving us a call today!
