Up for a NO-RESERVE auction is my 1977 Ford F-250 Highboy with a 1st Gen Cummins 12 Valve turbo Diesel conversion. The gentleman that did the build bought the nicely restored ford and low mileage 1991 Dodge Ram 2 wheel drive pickup from the same owner. He completed the swap using the engine, 5 speed transmission, radiator and inter-cooler from the Dodge. No modifications were performed to any of these, all completely stock. The Ford had 121,739 original miles on the clock and the Dodge had 77,477 original miles at the time of the swap. It has been on the road for about 8 years now and has 165,110 miles, which means the Cummins has about 121,000 miles on it. The Ford has been very reliable. The engine runs flawlessly with tons of power. The Getrag 5 speed tranny and clutch both operate perfectly. The clutch linkage that was built for the swap makes for a very stiff, very short throw which just takes a bit to get used to. A different set up could be made if desired but this system has plenty of miles on it to prove its reliability. The factory NP-205 divorced transfer case was retained and a custom drive shaft was installed between it and the tranny. The 4 wheel drive system works as it should. I just changed both u-joints on the front drive line and the passenger side axle shaft u-joint. It has a K&N air and oil filter installed and a fresh Optima Redtop battery. Under the hood is very clean, no oil or fluid leaks from the motor. The only fluid leak under the pickup is from the power assisted steering system, typical. It sounds great with the 4" straight-piped exhaust system. It has power disk brakes up front and drums in the rear. The rear axle is the Dana 60 and the front is a Dana 44. According to the gentleman that did the build, he installed new 3.55 gears in the front and rear. The BFGoodrich All-Terrains have plenty of life left in them. It has a stout receiver hitch with 7 and 4 pin trailer plug. There is also a fifth wheel hitch mount under the bed. The body on this Ford is outstanding. Absolutely no rust and straight as can be, not full of bondo. It was repainted the factory "Hot Ginger Metallic" before the conversion and still looks great today with only minor rock chips and light scratches. The aftermarket tailgate and Raider canopy were obviously painted seperately and are a shade or two off the original color though barely noticeable. All the lights and windshield wipers work, even the windshield washer too. There is a small crack in the very bottom corner of the windshield. Inside you'll find the interior is in excellent condition. I just installed new seat upholstery and the carpet is fairly fresh too. There is a nice touchscreen stereo system with an amp mounted under the seat. The custom Grant steering wheel adds a nice touch. The speedometer and fuel gauge are the only operational gauges. The heater works good. The fuel tank was removed from behind the seat and relocated out under the bed. The filler for the tank is located inside the bed near the tailgate. The keyed ignition was removed and the pickup is controlled by a master toggle and starter button located under the dash and a toggle on the dash that controls the glow plugs. There is a set of keys for the door locks. The door weather seals are fresh also. "Rattle Trap Extreme" sound deadening mat was installed in the engine bay on the firewall, throughout the interior under the carpet and inside the doors to help insulate the cab from noise.
