32k-mile survivor! Clean title California truck.

Price: US $7,500.00 Item location: Santa Monica, California, United States
Description:

1991 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat

This truck is an all-original, accident-free Bay Area survivor with full towing equipment, dual fuel tanks and a time-capsule 5.8-liter EFI V8 that doesn't leak a drop of anything. Give it a paint job or enjoy it as-is. Either way, it's got decades to go before it sleeps.
PLEASE NOTE: The "calculated" number of owners on the AutoCheck report is incorrect. I am technically the fourth owner, but this is essentially a three-owner truck. The CarFax report (which I'm happy to provide on request) confirms this.
The first owner drove it barely 12,000 miles from 1991 to 2010, using it as a spare recreational vehicle. The two owners since then have given it regular use and good care. Most notably, a 2016 invoice in the amount of $1,888 shows a full A/C service (the A/C still works perfectly today), a new driver door lock actuator, new idler pulley/tensioner/belts, a new EGR tube, new rear brake drums and shoes, and a new right rear wheel seal. In preparation for sale, a service was performed in January 2019 that included an oil change, a transmission fluid flush and new wiper blades. The truck has always passed smog and did so again on January 15th, 2019.
After I bought the truck in January from an old friend in the Bay Area -- the third owner, dating to 2012 -- I drove it home to Los Angeles. It drives like the 32k-mile specimen it is. Maybe better. The ride is really smooth. On the open road, it's quiet and composed, maintaining modern highway speeds with ease. The legendary 351 Windsor V8 is running tip-top; once it's warmed up, you can hardly feel it through the steering wheel at idle. Check out this acceleration video to see it in action:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM1HAy8m36k
Functional issues are limited to the following:
  • Passenger door lock actuator doesn't work, which means the lock can only be operated manually. I have purchased and will include a replacement door lock actuator.
  • A few squeaks from the engine on a cold start (no noises when warm)
  • Tires are date-coded 2010 and should be replaced before the next road trip
  • Occasional "bang shifts" on the 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts at part throttle
Regarding the latter, I checked the OBD1 codes and got a 634, which indicates an intermittent problem with the MLPS/Neutral Safety Switch sensor mounted on the side of the transmission. In my opinion, it's not bad enough to warrant messing with, but I purchased a replacement NSS and updated connector that will come with the truck.
The only other issues are cosmetic, as represented in the photos. The peeling two-tone paint on the nose was a well-known issue with these trucks, and the original owner evidently did not pursue the matter with Ford, unlike many owners at the time. There's surface rust underneath, but zero soft spots or rot. The truck has simply been sitting outside near San Francisco Bay for 28 years, and it shows. On the body, there's a band of surface rust above the front driver-side fender at the pinstripe, along with matching rust spots below the rear window. Inside, the truck is in excellent shape, lacking only a knob for the headlight lever.
I bought the truck because it was an irresistible excuse to go see my friend, who would have kept driving it but for the recent birth of her first child. Having had my fun with it, and having no sustainable place to park it here in Los Angeles, I'm ready to pass it along to its next custodian.
