This 1938 Ford Deluxe Station Wagon retains most of its original wood and enjoys a show-quality coating of lacquer paint that's been sanded and buffed with straight panels. a 221 CI flathead V-8 engine with correct heads, intake a downdraft carburetor, the rear wheels get their power via a 3-speed manual transmission. The brakes were upgraded to hydraulic units, making the car easier to drive and control. The dual exterior sideview mirrors, chrome trim rings on painted steel wheels capped with "V-8" hubcaps, the bumper guards, wide whitewalls tires, brightwork and vinyl top match the interior walls, which is to say, this wagon present exceedingly well. Having been restored in the 1990s, it still looks fresh, but has the slightest overtone of charming patina, the look of an experienced restoration. A recession was looming in 1937 and set in full bore in 1938, which curtailed all motor vehicle sales, and Ford was not immune, as having just introduced the new style and a new, smaller V-8 engine, money was tight all around. But, continual developments through 1938 wagons some of the rarer offerings from the Blue Oval. Another odd marketing idea from Ford was the differentiation between the Standard and Deluxe models with Standards using 1937 exterior components and Deluxes receiving the new, updated front end. It didn't go over well with the buying public, but it didn't fail either. Options for the 1938 Deluxe included fender skirts, radio, clock, bumper guards, sideview mirrors, rearview mirrors, a glovebox, dual wipers and fog lights.
