1968 Ford Galaxie 500
1968 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible390 cu. in. V8Select-Shift Automatic with Gear Vendors overdriveYou are bidding on a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible that I have owned since August 2003.
Since I purchased this vehicle in August of 2003, I have done the following:
- Rebulit original C6 transmission in September of 2003
- Rebuilt engine in May of 2005 with the following spec's: bored 0.030" over, CompCams 275DEH camshaft, Edelbrock Performer RPM chromed intake, chromed Power By Ford valve covers, Pony Carbs Autolite 4100 carburetor, Ford Performance Applications shorty headers.
- Upgraded differential to 3.70:1 limited-slip and installed Gear Vendors overdrive unit.
- Upgraded to dual exhaust, with Flowmaster 70-series mufflers.
- Installed Pertronix Ignitor ignition module and Pertronix Flame-Thrower coil. Deleted factory resistor-wire so coil gets a full 12-volts now.
- Rust repaired on Floor Pans and around Convertible Top base. Floor coated in RhinoLiner and then topped with DynaMat before new carpet was installed.
- Seat upholstery and door panels replaced in 2006.
- AM-only radio upgraded to 1968 factory AM/FM-Stereo radio. Stereo speakers installed in doors.
- Dash cap fitted over original dash-pad.
- AM/FM-Stereo radio upgraded to modern electronics from Vintage Auto Radio. Boston Acoustics speakers installed front and rear. Alpine 4-channel amplifier installed. Lifetime-subscription portable Sirius Satellite receiver included.
- New springs/bushings/bearings in the rear.
- New ball-joints/springs/bushings/bearings/tie-rods in the front
- Factory power front-disc/rear-drum brakes rebuilt at all four corners. New brake-booster/master-cylinder installed. Vacuum pump for brake-booster installed.
- Four new Cooper Cobra tires installed and front end aligned in late summer, 2018.
One other minor thing that detracts from the value of the car -- the previous owner removed all the under-hood parts of the factory Air Conditioning in order to "save weight." I have no idea why you'd try to save weight in a car that weighs 4,000+ pounds, but whatever. I never bothered to attempt to get the A/C working again by replacing any of the stuff that he removed. I just don't drive the car when it's prohibitively hot -- it's a fair-weather car, not designed for daily-driving, just for cruising on nice weekends. (The good news is that the heater works perfectly well -- so if it gets cold, you can put the top up and blast the heat. I replaced the heater-core shortly after buying the vehicle in August of 2003.)
Take a look at the pictures. This car is clearly a #3 car, based upon the criteria found in the Hagerty Price Guide. According to the most recent issue of that guide, this vehicle in #3 condition is worth $15,500. I have set the reserve to $12,500 because of the minor issues listed above. I feel that this is a very reasonable price to pay for a classic convertible in its current condition.
In this auction I am including some new weatherstripping for the convertible top that I bought but never installed (I installed two of the 6 pieces of weatherstripping that came in the kit). I am also including new center-caps for the American Racing Outlaw II wheels that I bought but never installed. I am also including the Marti Elite Report (pictured), a Ford Galaxie keychain (also pictured), a 1968 Ford sales brochure (not pictured) and a "Ford Galaxie Parking Only" sign (not pictured). I also have a large stack of receipts from myself and many from the previous owner.
If there is anything that you want close-up pictures of, please let me know and I will be happy to send them to you. eBay only let me put 24 pictures on this auction -- I have dozens more, and am happy to take pictures of specific parts of the car for you. All you need to do is ask.
Here are a couple of videos of it running:1) Just started, still cold, fast-idle:https://youtu.be/S6wzibeFYoI2) Driven for about 10 minutes, warmed up, slow idle:https://youtu.be/hGy0NhgdShE
I have a CLEAR TITLE to this car! The previous owner lived in a state that required titles for all vehicles, no matter what their age. When I bought the car and moved it to Georgia, I obtained a Georgia title, despite the fact that Georgia does not require titles to cars older than 1981. This means that you should have NO PROBLEMS titling the car in any state.
Currently there is a set of handicapped hand-controls installed in this vehicle, enabling it to be driven with your hands alone, or with hands and feet like normal. I can leave the controls in there, or take them out. Whatever you want.
After you've won the auction, and your payment has been received and verified, I am willing to drive the car up to 50 miles one-way from my home in ZIP Code 30107, to deliver it directly to you or to a shipping company of your choice. I will be happy to assist in loading the vehicle onto a trailer or other means of conveyance. (If you have a question about whether or not a specific location is in the 50-mile radius, please send me the address and I'll let you know.)
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm willing to answer any questions you might have.
Happy bidding, and good luck!
