Description:

1973 Ford Mustang

1973 Mach I. I've owned this car for 6 or 7 years now and am selling to fund other projects.

I'd rate this one as "almost a survivor". It has about 50% original paint with no signs of major rust repair. It has its numbers matching block and is a genuine 3F05 code Mach I in a rare color of medium copper metallic. The car comes with 3 worn buildsheets and a Marti report. I'm listing everything I know about the car so please read carefully.

I purchased the car from a long term owner in Maryland who bought the car in the early 80's. The owner before him swapped the auto trans for a Boss 429 close ratio 4 speed and 4.56 gears along with 70 351-4v heads and a crower solid cam, headers and a Holley. Someone also swapped some of the interior pieces from ginger to black. "Boss 351" call-outs were added too.

The car came out of storage in 2010 and owner did the basics to get it back on the road before I bought it. It still needed some sorting, which I did over the next few years.

As it sits now, the car has been made more streetable with a '73 wide ratio toploader and a nice, tight 3.25 traction-lok gear. The heads are stock D0AE-N (70-71 351c-4v) with boss 351 guideplates, adjustable rockers and what appear to be titanium spring retainers.

I have verified that the block is the original numbers matching unit.

Other work includes:

new starter

new clutch and flywheel

new u-joints

new carpet

rebuilt Holley 3310 carb

new gas tank, fuel pump and hoses

new speedometer cable assembly

relocated battery from trunk to correct location underhood, with a new battery tray

new header gasket, but still has a slight leak now and then (you can hear it at idle in the youtube video)

The car starts every time and runs at 180 degrees. It has good street manners but due to the old school Crower cam and Torker intake it doesn't have a lot of bottom end torque. It comes alive if you drive it more aggressively though.

Previous owner swore that the actual mileage was 40k and the title reflects that, however the speedometer has never worked while I've owned it, so true mileage is unknown. Looking at various details on the car, it does seem like a genuine low mileage car.

Body-

The floors and frame are excellent. The only rust I've found is a small bubbled spot in the bottom corner of the drivers rear quarter, and a bubbled area under the battery box. There is an area on the passenger quarter where the paint has cracked from an old repair or paint blend. The factory lead seam on the driver A-pillar has a blister.

There are several scuffs and scratches - one on the driver rear quarter will buff out, and I have touch up paint for a scratch on the passenger fender arch. Small dings on both quarters and one on passenger door.

Previous owner ziebarted the car in the 80's but I don't signs of any hidden rust. You can see where they brushed on black undercoat on the door seams and under the rockers.

Wheels are genuine Ford 15" Magnum 500's but not original to the car. tires are maybe 10 years old but not cracked.

Car is 100% driveable as-is but does have a few needs:

gas gauge does not work

speedometer/odometer do not work

radio is incorrect and not hooked up to the speaker (I have the knobs and cigarette lighter around here somewhere)

needs the cardboard package tray - previous owner had a shag blanket stuck back there and I've always forgotten about it.

brakes work fine but chatter a little when used hard...should probably have fresh pads soon.

Car is located in the east suburbs of Cincinnati, zip 45157. Inspections welcome.

Please see a walkaround video of the car on Youtube

I have over $16k invested and an serious about selling the car at a reasonable price. Thanks for looking!
