1968 Ford F-100 Ranger
This 1968 Ford F100 Ranger pickup is one of those unusual trucks that just seem to pop up now and then. Few trucks looked this good back in 1968, and thanks to just two owners who maintained this truck to a very high standard, it drives almost like new. If you need a full-size pickup with some style or a fun cruiser that can still earn its keep, this awesome Ford can still work and play hard. In 1968, trucks weren't fashion statements, they were tools. As a result, very few survived in great condition and even fewer were outfitted as nicely as this F-100. This truck is all about looking good, as the two-tone exterior with contrasting yellow and black interior is a very sophisticated combination, and over the past 45 or so years, it has been well maintained and upgraded as needed. The paint is about six months old and it's really nice for a truck, almost too nice to work for a living, so you shouldn't be afraid to hit the local cruise night with it. On the other hand, it isn't so perfect that a trip to Home Depot is out of the question. There's lots of bright trim, indicative of the top-of-the-line Ranger model, with bright stainless rub stripes, chrome bumpers, and big FORD block letters on the tailgate. The bed is almost too pretty to be used, but it includes tie-down cleats and bed rails to make securing the load easy. As I mentioned, the black and yellow interior is pretty much as the factory intended, although it was originally plain old beige. With a fresh seat cover, it looks fantastic and the wide bench seat offers a commanding view of the road from behind the wheel. That wheel is a slender 3-spoke unit that looks like it was borrowed from one of Ford's high-end passenger cars, and the instrument panel behind it is a clever arrangement of gauges inside an oval housing. The original AM/FM radio is a relatively rare find in a pickup and yes, it still works! Plush black carpets help control noise and heat and the headliner is a cool diamond-tufted piece that really dresses the place up. It also includes a sliding rear window for breezy ventilation that really works well to keep the cab comfortable. The torquey 360 cubic inch V8 makes this truck a lot of fun to drive. Rumbling with horsepower, it offers the kind of grunt that makes old pickups so much fun, kind of like a Mustang with a bed. It's quite stock, with a 2-barrel carburetor under the chrome air cleaner, factory manifolds, and lots of fresh maintenance items mean that it's a fantastic runner. Ford Blue paint looks great in the all-black engine bay and you'll note a dual master cylinder that's now connected to front disc brakes. The three-speed manual transmission features a new clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate, in addition to new seals, so it really drives nicely. The chassis is fairly clean and tidy, with the "Twin I-Beam" front suspension up front and a 9-inch hanging on leaf springs out back, so it's as rugged as ever. There's also a dual exhaust system with mellow-sounding mufflers, and period Torque Thrust wheels have been fitted with 255/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. Usually big horsepower, rear wheel drive, and a sparkling paint job will cost you extra, but with this rugged and attractive Ford pickup, it comes at a very reasonable price.
