MotoeXotica Classic Cars would like to present you with a grand slam instead. We are very excited to offer this 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 Z-Code Convertible, previously owned by Joe Maddon, who manages the Chicago Cubs. Maddon names his classic cars and this one was no exception. He called it Aunt Hen, named for his late aunt, Henrietta. He sat behind the wheel of this car in Tampa, Florida on December 23, 2014 and made a congratulatory call to David Ross, who had just signed a two-year deal with the team as catcher. This example is custom painted in Chip Foose Cinnamon Metallic paint.
Made in Ford?s Atlanta, Georgia assembly plant, this droptop is currently dressed in a rich Cinnamon exterior with a new black, power-folding vinyl top. The paint and trim are in overall excellent order, with minor imperfections visible upon close inspection. The car?s glass panels are in very good order, as are the lights, including the stacked headlights and rounded rectangular taillights. The car?s bodywork is straight and solid, the chrome bumpers are in very good order and the engine bay is quite tidy, plus the battery appears new.
This Galaxie rolls on Michelin radials, size 235/50ZR17 in front and 275/40ZR18 in back. Each tire surrounds a chrome, five-spoke American Racing wheel. The wheels are in very good order while the tires are in excellent condition.
Under the hood is Ford?s FE 390 CID V-8 (code Z) engine with E-Z electronic fuel injection. The 390, had a bore of 4.05 inches and stroke of 3.785 inches. It was the most common FE engine in later applications, used in many Ford cars as the standard engine as well as in many trucks. It was a popular high-performance engine; it provided good performance, particularly in lighter-weight vehicles. Bolted to this engine is something not found on most classic 60s Fords, a five-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning, power steering, power front windows and power brakes.
Inside, the factory front bench seat has been ditched in favor of a pair of high-back buckets. Those buckets and the rear bench seat have been reupholstered in houndstooth, lending the interior a vibrant, can?t miss tone. The seats and black carpet are in very good condition, while the three-spoke rimblow wood steering wheel looks fantastic. The inner door panels and instrument panel are in very good condition and the aforementioned Hurst shifter is topped with a white ball. Completing the interior is a factory AM/FM radio.
Modifications to the styling included adding a major bend in the center of the grille and making the model less ?boxy? than the 1966 model. An eight-track tape player became an option. Back-up lights were standard. For 1967, all Fords featured a large, padded hub in the center of the plastic steering wheel, along with an energy-absorbing steering column (introduced late into the 1967 model year), padded interior surfaces, recessed controls on the instrument panel, and front outboard shoulder belt anchors. Another safety related change was the introduction of the dual brake master cylinder used on all subsequent Galaxies (and other Ford models).
Whether you?re a Ford fan, a Cubs fan or just like the notion of owning a car owned by a well-known figure, you owe it to yourself to come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this Galaxie convertible.
Competition to this Galaxie in 1967 included Chevrolet?s Impala Convertible, Dodge?s Coronet Convertible, Mercury?s S-55 Convertible, Oldsmobile?s Delmont 88 Convertible, Plymouth?s Sport Fury Convertible and Pontiac?s Catalina Convertible.
