1965 Ford Mustang V8 (California) A-Code - semi-rare(ish) - Great Condition
1965 Ford Mustang
For Sale: A semi-rare(ish) 1965 Ford Mustang (V8 A-Code) in great condition. This car is ready to be a daily driver, or an awesome project car TODAY! Here's some great things about this Mustang:
• It's what many Mustang owners lovingly refer to as a 64 3/4. It was assembled in San Jose, California in the Summer of 1964—right in the middle of the transition between 1964 1/2 and 1965 models. So while it's technically a '65, several parts on the front of the car—like the hood, frame, and more—are original (yes, original) '64 1/2 pieces.
• The car has NEVER left the SF Bay / Sacramento area—not even on a road trip. It's a California Mustang in the truest sense.
• And the car comes with the original owners manual, card, and both sets of the original keys from when it was first purchased in September 1964.
• Solid bones. Body is straight. No waves or deformities. Under body and frame are in great condition. Sheet metal looks in great shape and no body filler as far as I'm aware.
• Matching numbers. The fender VIN, original Ford door plate, and owners card all contain matching numbers.
• I was told when I bought it, the car still has the original paint from 1964 (Ivy Green/R) that still shines and feels like glass when waxed.
• Comes with the original, black California plates from 1964.
• Interior has the original seat belts, original radio, and original 4-speed manual shifter (While a new boot from a '69 Mustang is in it now, I also have a brand new shifter boot for the '65, as well as the retainer plate, which you'll get with the car if you choose to switch it out).
• Original 289 V8 (informed by original owner)
• Brand new Holley 600 CFM Carburetor
• Brand new battery
• Brand new Scott Drake muffler
• 4-Row Radiator, PerTronix Flame Thrower, and more.
• Brand new tires
It runs great—not to mention fast! And I'm happy to share a video of it running with you (all you have to do is ask).
And while it's great and can be driven daily right now, I would also refer to it as a project car for these reasons:
• Drum brakes, not discs. The pads and drums have been inspected and are in great shape and firm when you press the brake pedal. And the master cylinder was just replaced.• Single exhaust, not a dual exhaust• No power steering, and a bit of slop in the wheel. But unless you're doing a lot of three-point turns, that's not really a big deal. Move even the slightest bit, and it's smooth and easy to steer.• No A/C. But you can install that, if you like.• Slight oil leak, but nothing that seems to be affecting the car to the point of concern. And it's an old car (comes with the territory).
Let me know if you have any questions. I aim to respond in 10-15 min.
Thanks for looking. Happy bidding.

Other good things to know about the car:
• Solid bones. Body is straight. No waves or deformities. Under body and frame are in great condition. Sheet metal looks in great shape and no body filler as far as I'm aware.
• Matching numbers. The fender VIN, original Ford door plate, and owners card all contain matching numbers.

It runs great—not to mention fast! I have video of a walkaround and starting the car on Vimeo. Search "1965 mustang for sale", and it's the video titled "Mustang_Walkaround" by Joshua C.
And while it's great and can be driven daily right now, I would also refer to it as a project car because it doesn't have some of the aftermarket bells and whistles you find on some other redone Mustangs. But if it had those things, I'd be looking for over $20k—lucky for you, this car is closer to original. Those things include:
• Drum brakes, not discs. The pads and drums have been inspected and are in great shape and firm when you press the brake pedal. And the master cylinder was just replaced. I drive this on the freeway and around the city without any issues.
• Single exhaust, not a dual exhaust. But that just means it's less obnoxious when driving in a crowded area.
• No power steering, and a bit of slop in the wheel. But unless you're doing a lot of three-point turns, that's not really a big deal. Move even the slightest bit, and it's smooth and easy to steer.• No A/C. But you can install that, if you like (or roll down all four windows and drive real fast!)
• Slight oil leak, but nothing that seems to be affecting the car to the point of concern. And it's an old car (comes with the territory).
The car just had its registration updated—along with it's original plates—through California. I should be receiving the new tags and title in the mail soon. In the meantime, I can produce evidence of paid-in-full registration, temporary driving tags, and a bill-of-sale, which is all that's needed in California to change owners (as per CA DMV). And I'll work with you to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible—so you're not left to do it on your own.
Let me know if you have any questions. Want more pictures? Want more video? Just want to ask a random question? Feel free to reach out. I aim to respond within 15 min.
