1950 Ford Other country squire woody wagon
LOWER RESERVE
1950 ford woodie wagon country squire.
This is a desirable woody with the classic look, but a modern LS based 5.3 engine with 4l60E overdrive transmission along with modern suspension and rearend. this car can literally be driven anywhere and get good mileage while doing it.
To begin wit, its a super solid southern california car that has spent its entire in so cal, originally made at the Long Beach plant and then spent its life in Orange County Californiauntil coming to Kentucky a lil over 2 1/2 years ago.The car was purchased from the previous owners family who owned the car since the early 1980's. in 2015 the restoration and modernization began, the body was in incredible shape with only a two places repaired in the floorboard(from previous owner)and along the lower front fenders, everything else was rust free and original to the car including the rocker panels . you may also notice the very hard to find metal spare tire cover and optional 2nd brake light are in place(along with new tail light buckets/bezels and lenses!) the body was stripped down to bare metal, epoxy coated & then urethane primed using PPG, then sprayed in Meadowlawn Beige PPG DBC basecoat and topped with PPG DCU2021 clear coat . every bit of exterior chrome was either rechromed, replaced or repolished . All exterior lightin, stop lights and turnsignals are in working order as well as dash lights.
The wood work is from Wood n'CARR in Long Beach california who have been in buisness for over 40 years, the structure is Rock Hard Maple with marine grade Mahagony ribbon inserts. all the wood was fitte, then CPES (clear penetrating epoxy sealer ) was applie, then the wood was tinted to give it that original look and then topped with PPG DCU 2002 polyurethane clear. no need to worry about re varnishing every few years.
The interior was done to closely mimic the original style interior with the exception of the roll & pleats to liven up the seats somewha, the seats were repadded then professionally stitched and recovered .(you may have noticed the rare hard to find third row seat is in place as well). All new carpet & padding and beautiful headliner installed . Birch doorpanels were made to mimick the original door panels . all of the window garnishes are woodgrain, the woodgrain on the garnishes & dash were not redone during this resto because they were done by the same person who did all of Nick Alexanders woodys, they were done in the 80's they have a few minor imperfections from being moved around over the past 30 years, but still look very nice . Personallly we had no plans to re-d, but obviously the new owner could as they all unbolt easily. Every piece of glass was replaced with factory tint glass and all new seals, fuzzys & channels. You may have noticed the collection of vintage surf and travel decals,(some are original and some are repops) the interior has one of the new Dakota Digital VHX analog style clusters, so it has needles that move instead of digital readouts, very cool. You can keep up with fuel, oil, water temp, speed, tach along with trip and many other functions as well .(odometer is currently showing a lil over169 miles ) wipers have been converted to new 2 speed electric wiper motor with new blades & arms. car is very quite for a woody which usually have many creaks. Also a complete new Ez-wire body wiring harness was installed.original radio is installed, but not hooked up.car has no AC, but there is plenty of room for a vintage air unit.
The Suspension And chassis where all upgraded with safety comfort and ease of parts replacement in mind . It has power disc brakes up front with a new hanging brake pedal, 7" power booster, dual circuit corvette style master cylinde, new caliper, new pad, new shoes & wheel cylinders in the rear along with all new hoses & brake lines.the rear end is a 71 chevelle 10 bolt rear end that has been rebuilt and has 3:42 gears that go great with the overdrive trans, the front suspension is from a 2003 s15 (fun fac, but those front clips line up perfectly with a 49-51 ford passanger car) We decided to go with this clip rather than a front suspension designed for a pinto MII for ease of finding parts at the local parts house and smoother ride,it includes 2" dropped spindles along with new shocks at all four corners . new power steering hoses .new steering u-joints . the original steering column was modified to work as an automatic shifter and it has a detent in the shifter has well, keeping that original style loo, it is then connected to a lokar billet shift mechanism.everything is designed to function with the modern steering. The tires are coker radial wide white, on steel rims with 51 reproduction 1951 ford hubcaps. (in our opinion a very classy upgrade over the 49-50 hubcaps)
Drive train was a very important factor in the build of this car, we wanted it to be super reliable and drive anywhere with no issues. a very low mileage 5.3 LS based engin, 4l60e overdrive transmission were used. the motor is very clean and starts up easily every time, the engine & trans remain fairly stock with the exception of the cold air intake and custom stainless headers, lokar dipstick & lokar throttle cabl, new exhaust provides just enough rumble to let them know something is underneat, but not to obnoxious. much work was done to fit the 5.3 in the engine compartment to make it look like it belonged. the inner fenders where modified to accomidate the new suspension, a drivers side fresh air intake was swapped in place of the passanger side fresh air intake . the radiator support was custom modified keeping a stock appreance to fit a custom made aluminum radiator made to the dimensions of a 67-69 camaro, so if ever needed you can easily order one. all new radiator hoses, new serpentine belt, new battery & cable, new custom made drive shaft . fuel tank and fuel system is all new as well, it has a new stock style steel tank from Tanks INC with baffles with an in tank walboro pum, and corvette fuel filter/ regulator.
In summary, the is a very classic and beautiful looking ford woody just like everyone loves, it has the classic looks but with modern driveabilty in mind to drive it anywhere you desire. It was built to capture the style and reason everybody has fell in love with woodies, but with todays modern performance and reliability .you may find another one just as nice, but you wont find one just as nice and just as reliable.
purchase at a fraction of the cost if you were to pay someone to build for you.
