This is a 1968 Ford Torino notchback 2-door hardtop that I bought about 12 years ago. The car had been parked for several years. After I bought it I decided to fix it up and then worked on it for about 3 years. I've driven it since then and the car has been dependable and fun to drive. It has the original 302 V-8 engine (I checked the engine numbers when the engine was apart). Engine was overhauled, given a valve job and assembled with all new parts: pistons (standard bore), bearings (crank is standard also - in fact when I took the engine apart the back of the bearings had a 1967 date code and FOMOCO on them), gaskets and seals, etc. The Melling cam is the hydraulic version of the 289/271 HiPo cam and has new performance lifters and springs. Intake is an old Offenhauser with a rebuilt all metal old Holley 600 with manual choke. Exhaust is dual with Turbo mufflers and chrome pencil tips out back. The clutch set is from Luk and works very smoothly and makes the car fun to drive with the T-5 transmission. The T-5 is from a 1988 Mustang GT and was built by Ebay member Badshoe and is the transmission in his T-5 rebuild video. He has been a transmission man for about 40 years. The rear end is 8-inch and has 4:11 gears with traction lock. It was built by a Ford mechanic with over 30 years' experience. Brakes have been replaced. The fronts are Granada discs with all new parts except for the rebuilt calipers. Lines are custom made stainless. The rear brakes have new drums, shoes and hardware. Brake lines both rubber and metal were replaced. The a-arms, ball joints, shocks on front were replaced. On the rear the car came with coil over helper springs on the rear shocks and I left them in place. They give the car its stance. The body and paint are not the best and have numerous flaws. The worse is the top of the driver front fender (picture below). A good body and paint person could bring this car to another level. Interior was redone by a couple of guys who used to own an upholstery shop. The black seat covers and door panels are done in a close to original style. The upholstery is cloth and vinyl. Headliner and carpet are new. I bought new sail panels from a well known Ford parts supplier and they were junk that didn't last a year. They have curled and I never got around to getting new ones made. Wheels are chrome American Racing with 6-inch wide ones on front and 7-inch wide ones on rear. Engine fires right up, car runs and drives well and is fun with the 5-speed and 4:11. Car only has about 5000 miles on the drivetrain. I need to sell this and a 1969 Ranchero in another auction to gain garage space.

Car came with helper springs on the rear shocks. It has a nice stance.

Front tires are P205X60X15 and rears are P225X60X15 B F Goodrich T/As. They are the proper size for this car and do not rub anywhere.

Royal maroon is the paint color - a color that was used by Ford in 1968 and other years

T-5 uses factory shift mechanism - I bought and attached the Hurst stick to it. Shift ball is black pearl.

Everything works except - gas gauge: when full it registers 3/4 but otherwise works fine and turn signals: they work but do not cancel. I never realized that until the car was on the road. Clutch pedal bushings have been replaced.

Stereo is AM/FM/CD with removable face and a remote that I've never used. There are two 6/X9 speakers in the package tray. The mechanical oil pressure and water temperature gauges have a chrome bezel and came from AutoMeter. Engine is at idle and cold with about 55 pounds of oil pressure. It runs about 50 psi normally.

Lower dash was out of another vehicle. The chrome plastic trim was in bad shape; I had the dash and replaced it. I added the Torino emblem to glove box. Inside is the owner's manual. Dash pad is used has no cracks or breaks but has some warping.

The 302 is the original engine. It fires right up and runs fine.

Note all stainless fasteners on engine. It has a reproduction of the old Ford Muscle Parts cam which is the hydraulic version of the 289 HiPo cam: 290 duration and 0.470 lift. Intake is Offenhauser with Holley 600 four barrel. Distributor is the original with Pertronix electronic ignition installed with Pertronix coil.

Alternator is the original one rebuilt and painted black by local shop. Water pump, thermostat, single fan belt, all hoses, etc were new when engine was redone.

I added the 302 emblem to the air cleaner. I had a Fairlane back in 1971 with same cam and just a chrome air cleaner. Liked the look.

All four side glasses that are in great shape are included. I would have replaced the side glass that has scratches if I had them when the car was apart.

8-inch rear with 4:11 gears and traction lock - with the T-5 and 4:11 gears when shifted into 5th or overdrive the final ratio is 2:80 - same as the car came with originally. Both speedometer gears were changed in the T-5 so it would read correctly.

Gas fill is behind the license plate. If you know these cars then you know no one makes a gas cap that fits. I found the one on this Torino one year at All Ford Carlisle. Cap fits properly with no leaks.
