Description:
1965 Ford Mustang GT A Code
In April of 1965 Ford had 60-65 1965 Wimbledon White with Blue/White Deluxe (Pony) interior Mustang GT coupes sent to the New York World's Fair for the press launch of the GT option. All the cars were built on March 26, 1965 and all were equipped with the very same options and colors. I have a full binder of documentation of the event, restoration work and some of the prior ownership information. What makes this one particularly unique is that it was built in the San Jose, CA plant and then shipped off to New Jersey for the press launch. Of course being a GT (and a very early one) it is an A code with the 289 4 barrel carb engine. Automatic C4 transmission. After the event, the cars were sent to auction. This car was purchased by Cutter Ford Sales in Hermosa Beach, CA and sold to a Delta Airlines pilot. I have a letter from the original owner stating its participation in the NY World's Fair as well as an email exchange between myself and the son of the original dealer confirming the NY World's Fair history. Between the original and the subsequent owner's purchase, this car was only owned by two families until late 2014. I purchased it and began to bring it back to its original condition.
I am selling a couple cars as we are moving to smaller quarters andwillhave less room. I also want to stop paying for indoor storage for my other toys and would like the garage space at home. My goal is to combine my resourcesand have one collector car to enjoy
The car has an excellent and recent paint job that I had done this past summer. It also still has the original CA black plates. Since my ownership I've also had the transmission rebuilt, restored the interior, installed new and proper exhaust, suspension (I added Koni shocks as that'swhat I would have done back in the day), new rubber and window felt and much more. It even has brand new Firestone tires that were remanufactured by Coker Tire as an exact replica of what came on it originally. Everything has been done right. I've got well over $40K in the car so keep this in mind when wondering about the condition.
I do want to point out that the picture of the original Rally Pac is before I sent it out to be restored. The shop that has it is closed until January 8th so I won't have it back until then. Before youtake delivery, I will have paid for and installed theoriginal Rally Pac.
Quick comment about the mileage. This is what California DMV has as "actual mileage." Since the odometer only has 5 digits, plus 10ths, that'slikely why that's whattheir records show. My first order of business for any older car is to make sure it's safe and mechanically sound so I had a shop check the compression. Here are their readings
135, 135, 145, 140, 140, 140, 130, 135
